Tasks
- Interpreting specifications, blueprints, and drawings to determine work requirements and welding techniques necessary for the job.
- Operating manual, semi-automatic, and fully automated welding equipment to weld, join, fabricate, and repair metal parts and components on commercial trucks and trailers.
- Using flame-cutting equipment to cut, shape, and modify metal parts and materials as needed for truck and trailer repair, ensuring
precision and adherence to design specifications.
- Operating metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines, including brakes and shears, to ensure the proper fitment and alignment of metal components.
- Performing precision welding to repair and maintain critical truck and trailer parts, including chassis, rail-ends, frogs, turn-outs, switch points, and glue joints using arc, propane, or thermite welding processes.
- Assessing the weldability of various materials, ensuring that they meet the necessary structural and safety standards for roadworthiness.
- Safely operating hoisting and lifting equipment to maneuver and position large metal parts during welding and assembly tasks.
- Adhering to all safety protocols and regulations, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring a hazard-free work
environment, particularly when working with high temperature equipment.
- Performing regular maintenance and minor repairs on welding, brazing, and soldering equipment, ensuring their optimal functioning and preventing downtime.
- Starting up, shutting down, and monitoring robotic welding production lines to ensure smooth and efficient operations, making adjustments as needed.
- Inspecting welded parts and assemblies for defects, ensuring that welds are of high quality and meet the required structural standards.
- Working closely with other team members, including mechanics and engineers, to complete complex repairs and projects within tight deadlines, while maintaining high-quality work.
- Maintaining detailed records of work performed, including repairs made, parts used, and time taken, ensuring accuracy in project documentation and reporting to supervisors.
- Staying updated on the latest welding technologies, equipment, and techniques, actively contributing to process improvements and overall operational efficiency.
