The Parklawn Group is the only approved and integrated support solution dedicated to the insolvency and restructuring community. We provide certified appraisals for trustees and their teams, end-to-end transportation and on-demand pick-up and storage services. We offer white-glove asset handling services for Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals, consumers filing a Consumer Proposal, and other affiliates who work within the parameters of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act in Canada. We specialize in dealing with voluntarily relinquished assets by an insolvent consumer or business as part of an insolvency proceeding. Our services include Personal Property appraisals (USPAP and CPPAG certified); insured transportation; motorized asset storage; liquidation of assets via private sale, online or in auction places; real estate sales, including power of sale and opinions of value.
We are seeking a Valuation and Logistics Specialist to support our asset appraisal and valuation operations as well and to provide supervision for our national asset recovery logistics network. This high-stakes role will help us ensure financial compliance and asset integrity in compliance with the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA). The duties and responsibilities of this role will include:
Specialized Asset Valuation & Field Appraisal (70%)
• Preparing opinions of value for property, dwellings, industrial and commercial machinery and equipment and personal and household items.
o On-site Appraisals: Travelling within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and to nearby economic regions to perform on-site, independent appraisals of tangible commercial and industrial assets, as required.
o Desktop Appraisals: Conducting rapid desktop appraisals for Licensed Insolvency Trustees (LITs) and corporate clients, providing preliminary valuation input critical for directing logistics and asset handling.
• Providing the specialized valuation expertise necessary to finalize logistics directives and financial reporting.
• Preparing defensible appraisal reports conforming to all relevant industry standards (e.g., USPAP/CUSPAP, BIA) for lending agencies, licensed insolvency trustees, superintendent of bankruptcies office, courts, attorneys, creditors, buyers or auctioneers.
National Logistics Command & Supervision (20%)
• Providing time-critical planning, organization, and supervision of the national logistics network, and exercising command-level decision-making authority.
• Planning, establishing, and implementing detailed daily and long-term procedures for the urgent, compliant, and cost-effective movement of recovered assets across the national network.
• Serving as the centralized point of command and supervision for all national voluntary asset recoveries. This involves directing, assigning, and reviewing the immediate execution of logistics tasks by partner transportation companies.
• Directly supervising immediate scheduling, negotiation, and coordination with partner transportation companies to ensure the secure, efficient, and compliant movement of assets across Canadian time zones.
• Being available after work hours and on weekends to exercise command authority and supervise urgent national logistics operations, ensuring rapid turnaround times.
• Overseeing Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) compliance throughout the logistics chain, managing the remote documentation process, and maintaining the legal chain of custody for all assets recovered nationally.
Local Facility Operations & Maintenance (10%)
• Strategically planning and managing all space utilization within the secure Toronto facility. Exercising care in maneuvering assets in tight spaces to maximize storage and ensure asset security.
• Driving both automatic and manual transmission (stick shift) transmission vehicles and safely operating all types of recovered motorized assets within the facility/yard, as required, including motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, golf carts, cargo vans, boats, and travel trailers.
• Personally executing minor, hands-on facility maintenance and housekeeping tasks, troubleshooting, and coordinating with all local vendors (e.g., maintenance contractors, waste management, security specialists).
Requirements:
• A college diploma in a related field is required.
• 2+ years of experience in a position related to appraisal for the insolvency and restructuring community is required.
• Certification as an Accredited Appraiser with Canadian Personal Property Appraisers Group (CPPAG), or equivalent professional valuation accreditation is required.
• 2+ years of experience in logistics supervision, scheduling, and command-level coordination for a national asset recovery program is required.
• An understanding of the insolvency sector and of Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) compliance.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to make decisions independently.
• Strong numeracy and digital literacy skills.
• Experience in the hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and direct vendor coordination of a commercial facility.
• Possession of a valid Canadian G Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) and ability to drive a manual transmission (stick shift) car is required.
• Demonstrated ability to maneuver and operate diverse motorized assets (e.g., ATVs, motorcycles, trailers, boats).
