Company Profile:
Buckley Cartage started operations in 1892. The company was founded by Thomas Buckley who had one cart pulled by two horses – Scottie and Ben – and driven by John MacDonald. Today, his great-grandson – also John MacDonald – still drives for Buckley!
In those days, Buckley pulled soap from the Lever Brothers plant at the foot of what is now the Don Valley Parkway to locations all over Toronto. Right from the start, Buckley was known for our exceptional service. Based on the growing number of happy customers, Buckley grew quickly till the fleet of horses and carts reached 25, providing services all across the city.
In the 1930s, Buckley introduced the first truck into service and quickly grew the fleet, replacing Scottie and Ben who were allowed to finish their days in happy retirement.
