Duties/Responsibilities
1. Drive transport trucks, tractor-trailers, or flatbeds safely over long distances.
2. Map out efficient paths using GPS, factoring in traffic, weather, and construction.
3. Manage customs clearance documents when crossing international borders i.e Canada–US.
4. Check brakes, tires, lights, and fluid levels before every journey.
5. Inspect the vehicle's mechanics and cargo securing devices during rest stops.
6. Record work hours, rest periods, and mileage in electronic logging devices (ELDs).
7. Document any mechanical defects and arrange for repairs on the road.
8. Use straps, chains, or bars to ensure cargo does not shift during transport.
9. Supervise the loading and unloading of goods to ensure proper weight distribution.
10. Provide regular status updates to dispatchers regarding estimated arrival times.
