Education: Completion of secondary (high) school
Work Experience: At least 1-2 years of relevant experience
Job Descriptions: In this role, you will be asked to perform various functions. A Telecommunication Line Technician is responsible for ensuring many different tasks, including but not limited to:
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair telecommunication systems such as telephone, internet, and cable television lines, including fibre optic and coaxial cables.
• Install, remove, and maintain poles, towers, support structures, and related hardware.
• Use testing equipment to check for faults and ensure that cables and connections are working properly.
• Work on overhead and underground lines, sometimes at heights or in confined spaces.
• Read and interpret blueprints
• Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders, or other support structures
• Operate and maintain equipment such as winches, hoists, cable plows, and bucket trucks.
• Splice, join and connect various types of cables (copper, fibre optic) and place cables in conduits and trenches.
• Determine the nature, cause and location of the trouble
• Repair or replace defective telecom cables
• Complete and maintain test and service reports
• Follow health, safety, and environmental regulations and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
