Sr. Scientist Job

Provide technical support to new or existing customers with growth potential to grow sales of Tate & Lyle ingredients; Formulations: Develop and produce formulas and prototypes with Tate & Lyle ingredients within Beverage category. Utilize design of experiment and statistical knowledge to optimize food/beverage formulations for specific customer projects and building internal knowledge and food/beverage expertise; Technical innovation: Create and demonstrate new food/beverage product ideas, food/beverage application concepts and technologies to existing and potential customers; Pilot plant: Develop plans and optimize execution of pilot plant trials. Use food science knowledge to monitor, develop/utilize specific food processing steps in manufacturing process; Lead customer technical projects and provide/resource technical expertise to address customers’ technical issues; Develop technical account plans with Sales to pursue and close these opportunities; Penetrate and build relationship with key technical decision makers leading to new opportunities and projects; Present new product ideas and technologies to existing and potential customers; Develop and foster relationships with contacts in industry to build recognition for Tate & Lyle ingredients/technologies; Capture new technical leads/opportunities to build a strong project pipeline in CRM system (SalesForce.com). Independently review projects, growth, and ability to move projects through development stages; Work cross functionally within Tate & Lyle (e.g. Research, Applications, Analytical, Product Management, etc.) to ensure customer performance goals are met; Use ingredient knowledge within categories or applications to support customer projects; Work collaboratively with Sales Account Managers to bring internal campaigns and product launches for customer relevant opportunities that deliver annual operating plans aligned with Tate & Lyle Food & Beverage Solutions NOAM; Contribute market intelligence/trends within category or application.

Bachelor’s or foreign degree equivalent in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering or a related field and three years of experience in the job offered or in food science. Special skills - Experience in food formulation; ingredient functionality; food science, food chemistry, food microbiology and food processing. Position is based in Hoffman Estates office with option to occasionally work from home in Chicagoland area. Travel up to 50% (by car and/or air) to client sites.
