Overview

The Software Developer is an IT Systems Integration role focused on developing, supporting, and maintaining custom applications and integrated services across the credit union. The role emphasizes software development, business process automation, integration services, and cloud-based solutions, with a secondary focus on contributing to agentic AI development initiatives. Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and supporting custom solutions that ensure the integrity, quality, and availability of software and services. This role covers the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, planning, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. The role may also assist with designing, integrating, testing, and supporting AI-enabled automation solutions that use large language models, structured prompts, approved tool integrations, APIs, workflow orchestration, and appropriate human oversight. The role supports organizational efficiency by automating business processes, delivering new capabilities using modern platforms when appropriate, and reducing operational risk through frequent, automated releases and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new .NET web applications, web APIs, standalone applications, and scheduled applications while maintaining and enhancing the existing application infrastructure to support organizational goals, projects, and system implementations

  • Contribute to agentic AI development efforts by helping design, build, test, and support AI-enabled workflows that can use approved tools or APIs to complete multi-step tasks with appropriate guardrails

  • Assist with prompt design, tool integration, evaluation, monitoring, and documentation for AI-assisted automation solutions to support reliability, security, traceability, and responsible use

  • Participate in requirements analysis and project planning

  • Create work breakdown structures, estimates, milestones, and timelines

  • Collaborate with internal teams to produce software designs and architectures

  • Translate user acceptance criteria into automated unit and integration tests

  • Develop clean, efficient, and scalable code that aligns with established designs and architectures

  • Contribute to performance, system, and user acceptance testing

  • Configure continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines for build, test, and deployment automation

  • Work with internal teams to deploy, configure, and validate applications and systems

  • Ensure all enhancements follow established change management procedures

  • Provide timely technical and operational support for software and systems

  • Monitor, update, and enhance existing software and systems

  • Develop documentation throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Follow established software development standards, guidelines, conventions, policies, and procedures

  • Provide regular updates on project and deliverable status to stakeholders and team members

  • Create, support, and maintain RPA solutions for internal Windows and web applications

  • Manage, configure, support, and enhance APIs hosted on the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • Protect the confidentiality and integrity of financially sensitive information and maintain the technical mechanisms for legitimate access to and release of data in accordance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA)

  • Remain cognizant of and adhere to NWFCU policies and procedures, as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)

Qualifications

Required


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a software developer

  • Strong experience with .NET development, including C#, ASP.NET, Web APIs, REST/SOAP integrations, and service-based or integration-focused application design

  • Hands-on experience or project exposure with AI-assisted development, large language models, prompt engineering, AI workflow automation, or agentic AI concepts such as tool use, multi-step reasoning, workflow orchestration, and human-in-the-loop review

  • Experience building scalable applications using layered, n-tier, or service-oriented architecture patterns, with SQL skills for analysis, reporting, troubleshooting, and application support

  • Experience with automated testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, and modern source control workflows

  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, agile methodologies, object-oriented design, and secure development practices

  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment, build effective working relationships, and manage multiple tasks

  • Ability to work effectively both on-site at our Herndon, VA headquarters and remotely

  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Preferred


  • Certifications or formal training in .NET, Azure, MuleSoft, AI, cloud architecture, or secure software development

  • Financial industry, banking, or credit union IT experience

  • Experience with Fiserv DNA, Core API, and DNA REST API

  • Experience building or supporting AI agents, LLM-based applications, or AI-enabled workflow automation using approved enterprise platforms, APIs, or orchestration frameworks

  • Familiarity with responsible AI practices, including evaluation, monitoring, guardrails, data protection, and appropriate human oversight
