Position Description:
Responsible for maintaining, repairing and controlling the configuration of hydraulically powered friction stir welding and friction pull plug welding machines:
Must develop an in-depth understanding of how the equipment works (customer will supply some formal, equipment-specific training to help accomplish this) and must be able to: determine the root cause of failures, accomplish the required repairs, and identify intermediate solutions when permanent repairs can't be immediately accomplished.
Must document problems, the related investigative techniques and corrective actions, and the results of the repair activities and communicate them to co-workers, company and customer personnel.
Developing lists of spare parts to be kept on hand and arranging for the parts to be obtained and then obtaining replacement spare parts when the parts on hand are used.
Responsible for training other personnel to run these machines. Planning and executing projects executed on these machines.

Educational requirement is a High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent; at least 15 years of experience and continuing education, or an Associate degree or equivalent and at least 10 years of experience.
This position requires methodical planning and execution of maintenance and troubleshooting operations and experience with control systems, hydraulics and electromechanical systems. The ideal candidate will have prior experience operating and maintaining MTS Systems Corporation/PaR/I-STIR friction stir welding equipment or MTS Systems Corporation multi-axis servohydraulic control systems. The ideal employee will also have prior experience with friction stir welding process and/or manufacturing development.

Star ID will be required to obtain access to MSFC.
