Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to implement and support the agency's IT network infrastructure. The role covers day-to-day support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of VDOT network-related infrastructure, requiring in-depth, hands-on expertise across enterprise networking technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers
• Identify and diagnose system problems using line monitors, diagnostic software, and test equipment
• Work closely with IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather and validate requirements, specifications, and configurations
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime
• Assist in overseeing installation, documentation, and upgrades of agency facility data network infrastructure
• Collaborate with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations
• Provide documentation, network architecture topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls as required
• Work independently on assigned projects
Required Skills & Certifications:
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, and wireless access points (setup, configuration, upgrade, management, troubleshooting)
• 8+ years demonstrated ability to design, install, and troubleshoot local- and wide-area enterprise networks
• 8+ years direct hands-on engineering and design experience in the networking industry
• 8+ years’ experience monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security, architecture policies, and standards
• 8+ years’ experience creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance
• 8+ years’ experience with performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery
• 8+ years’ experience creating network diagrams using industry-standard tools (e.g., Visio)
• 8+ years’ experience with networking protocols/features: ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, 802.1Q trunking, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, RADIUS/TACACS+, SNMP, BRI/PRI, MPLS
• Industry-standard networking certification required (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA-Junos)
• Must physically reside in the US for the duration of the assignment (offshore contractors prohibited)
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
• 3+ years’ experience working with SDWAN
• 3+ years’ experience with network topology related to Cloud
• 3+ years familiarity/experience with cloud networking
