Job Description:

I. Job Summary
Performs basic laboratory tasks, assists chemists, sets up routine lab parameters, maintains logs and databases. Complies with QA/QC policies and procedures. Performs other tasks at managers direction
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
Receives waste samples, reviews load sheet packages, performs testing as required to establish wastes are acceptable. Understands and certified to perform the quality control criteria and analysis on samples to include but not limited to:
Compatibility Analysis & Determination ICP analysis
PCB Prep, Methods & Analysis Microwave Digestion Methods
Solvent Prep, Methods & Analysis Mercury Prep, Methods & Analysis
Metals Prep, Methods & Analysis pH Prep, Methods & Analysis
Flash Point Prep, Methods & Analysis Temp Meas., Prep, Methods & Analysis
Cyanide Prep, Methods & Analysis Sulfide Prep, Methods & Analysis
Completes record keeping on sampling procedures according to standards.
Performs testing and analysis on wastes in accordance with the facility’s SSPs and SSMPs.
Makes independent decisions in accordance with standard laboratory practices and in accordance with the facility SSPs and SSMPs documents.
Directs unusual problems or discrepancies to manager.
Utilizes working knowledge of lab protocol, chemical terminology, and waste codes.
Sample shipping, receiving, and logging, using instruments, equipment and DOT Haz Material standards.
Calibration and maintenance of lab instruments, utilizing a laboratory information management system, and other tasks as needed.
Conducts radiation portal calibration and measurements on incoming wastes using calibrated equipment
Required to read, use basic mathematics, and complete records and logs. Position requires a high level of concentration and close mental and visual attention
Performs discrepancy resolution as needed with required customer interaction
Participates in Lab audits and finding resolution
Performs facility compliance inspections as needed
Performs incoming waste receiving procedures
Performs other duties as assigned by manager.

IV. Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
Education: High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
Experience: Twelve months of relevant work experience as a lab technician and completed certification for Tech and 11 level parameters (in addition to education requirement).
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
Must be able to pass respirator fit test and pulmonary function test.
