Job Description:
Senior DevOps Engineer (Gaming Platform & Live Operations)
About Nexus Arena
Nexus Arena is building the next generation of competitive, connected, and data-driven gaming experiences. Our platform powers player accounts, matchmaking logic, game configuration, live operations, admin tooling, and the cloud infrastructure that keeps our services online around the clock.
We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with deep production experience to own reliability, deployment automation, and platform operations across our gaming backend.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer with 9+ years of experience designing, operating, and scaling cloud infrastructure for high-traffic, always-on applications. You will partner with backend engineers, game developers, and product teams to keep Nexus Arena's live services secure, observable, and resilient.
This role is ideal for someone who has led platform operations in production environments, built CI/CD pipelines from the ground up, and supported live-service products where uptime and fast incident response matter.
Key Responsibilities
-CI/CD & Release Engineering — Design, maintain, and improve automated build, test, and deployment pipelines for backend services, admin tools, and supporting infrastructure.
-Cloud Infrastructure — Provision and manage production and staging environments on AWS, GCP, or Azure using infrastructure-as-code practices.
-Container Orchestration — Operate Docker and Kubernetes workloads, manage cluster health, scaling policies, and rollout strategies.
-Reliability & Monitoring — Implement logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting with tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or equivalent stacks.
-Database & Cache Operations — Support PostgreSQL and Redis in production, including backups, replication, performance tuning, and disaster recovery planning.
-Security & Compliance — Harden servers and services, manage secrets, certificates, access controls, and security patching workflows.
-Incident Response — Lead or support on-call rotations, root-cause analysis, post-incident reviews, and continuous reliability improvements.
-Live Operations Support — Enable smooth launches, content updates, and operational changes for game services and internal admin systems.
-Cross-Functional Collaboration — Work closely with Ruby on Rails engineers and platform developers to improve deployment safety, environment parity, and operational runbooks.
Required Skills & Experience
-9+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering roles
-Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems administration in production
-Expertise with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar
-Production experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and containerized service deployments
-Strong knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CloudFormation
-Experience operating cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
-Solid understanding of networking, load balancing, DNS, TLS, and reverse proxies
-Experience supporting PostgreSQL and Redis in production environments
-Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed systems and live-service platforms
-Excellent communication skills and ability to work with engineering and operations stakeholders
Bonus / Nice-to-Have
-Experience supporting gaming backends, live-ops platforms, or real-time online services
-Familiarity with WebSocket services, message queues, and event-driven architectures
-Experience with Nginx, HAProxy, or cloud load balancers
-Knowledge of cost optimization and capacity planning for cloud workloads
-Exposure to security scanning, compliance workflows, and secrets management platforms
-Experience mentoring engineers and defining platform engineering standards
What You'll Work On
-Production infrastructure for game backend APIs and admin systems
-Automated deployment pipelines for Rails and Node.js services
-Monitoring, alerting, and incident response for live gaming operations
-Database backup, scaling, and recovery strategies
-Secure remote-friendly development and staging environments
-Platform improvements that reduce deployment risk and improve service uptime
Why Join Nexus Arena
-Own the reliability of infrastructure that powers live competitive gaming experiences
-Work with a cross-functional team building ambitious gaming and platform products
-Flexible remote-friendly environment
-High ownership over architecture, tooling, and long-term platform direction
