Nexus Arena is building the next generation of competitive, connected, and data-driven gaming experiences. Our platform powers player accounts, matchmaking logic, game configuration, live operations, and internal tools used by our operations team.
We are seeking a Ruby on Rails Engineer to maintain, optimize, and expand our Admin Panel and Backend Services that support our live game ecosystem.
Role Overview
As the Ruby on Rails Backend Engineer, you will own the stability, performance, and evolution of our internal admin system and backend APIs.
You’ll collaborate closely with game developers, DevOps engineers, and product managers to ensure our live services run smoothly, securely, and efficiently.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working on live-service systems, game operations tooling, and high-reliability backend architecture.
Key Responsibilities
-Admin Panel Maintenance – Update, refactor, and optimize our existing Rails admin dashboard for game configuration, player management, and live operations.
-Backend Feature Development – Build new backend modules, APIs, and internal tools to support new game features and operational needs.
-Database Management – Optimize PostgreSQL queries, indexing, migrations, and schema design for performance and scalability.
-API Integration – Maintain and extend REST/JSON APIs used by game clients, launchers, and internal services.
-Security & Compliance – Implement best practices for authentication, authorization, and data protection.
-Bug Fixing & Monitoring – Diagnose production issues, improve logging, and enhance system reliability.
-DevOps Collaboration – Work with DevOps to deploy updates, manage environments, and improve CI/CD pipelines.
-Documentation – Maintain clear documentation for internal tools, APIs, and backend workflows.
Required Skills & Experience
-3+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails
-Strong understanding of PostgreSQL, ActiveRecord, and query optimization
-Experience with REST APIs, JSON, and backend service architecture
-Familiarity with Sidekiq, background jobs, and caching (Redis)
-Solid understanding of authentication/authorization (Devise, JWT, Pundit, etc.)
-Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud deployment workflows
-Ability to debug complex backend issues and improve system reliability
-Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Bonus / Nice-to-Have
-Experience with game backend systems or live-ops tooling
-Knowledge of WebSockets, real-time services, or matchmaking logic
-Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
-Experience with admin dashboards like ActiveAdmin or RailsAdmin
-Understanding of analytics pipelines and event tracking
