SKILLS

Tasks:
Operate and drive a straight-body roll-off or hook-lift truck on local and short-haul routes to transport construction bins, debris and materials.

Deliver, place, exchange, relocate and pick up roll-off bins at construction sites, equipment yards and approved disposal or recycling facilities.
Operate the truck’s hydraulic roll-off or hook-lift system to safely load, unload, place and retrieve bins.
Perform pre-trip, en-route and post-trip inspections of the truck, including the tires, lights, brakes, hydraulic system, controls, tarping system and other safety equipment.
Safely back and position the truck at active construction sites and other restricted locations.
Assess site access, overhead clearances, ground conditions and surrounding hazards before placing or retrieving bins.
Tarp and secure bins and loads and ensure the safety and security of cargo during transportation.
Monitor load limits and ensure that loads are transported in accordance with applicable road-safety and load-securement requirements.
Transport construction waste and debris to approved disposal or recycling facilities and follow facility procedures.
Plan and adjust routes using GPS or other navigation equipment and respond to changing road, traffic and site conditions.
Receive and relay information to dispatch, construction site managers, supervisors, customers and tradespeople.
Maintain accurate records of hours of service, kilometres travelled, fuel consumption, inspections, bin movements, disposal tickets and related transportation activities.
Report vehicle defects, accidents, unsafe site conditions and repair or maintenance requirements.
Perform routine preventive maintenance.
Provide professional customer service and address or report concerns raised by customers, tradespeople and site personnel.

Credentials:
Valid Class 3 or Class 1 commercial driver’s licence with a valid Air Brakes Endorsement.

Experience and specialization:
Type of trucking and equipment = Roll-off truck

Communication systems experience:
Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment

Transportation/travel experience:
Short-haul

Additional information:
Security and safety = Driving record check (abstract). The successful candidate must provide a recent and satisfactory driver’s abstract and must be eligible for coverage under the employer’s commercial automobile insurance policy.
