Job Duties:
A. DIRECT PATIENT CARE:
• Assesses the delivery of nursing care on the unit and collaborates with the manager in adjusting staffing and assignments.
• Assesses the health status of each patient and family as outlined in the standards of nursing practice.
• Initiates nursing interventions for each patient/client and family that incorporates goals and outcome indicators pertinent to the patient/client. Plans the care of each patient as well as directs and coordinates others in order to provide holistic care.
• Implements the nursing care plan and corresponding nursing actions.
• From evaluation of achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes, re-assesses, revises the nursing care plan.
• Communicates aspects of patient care directly to other members of the health care team and functions as a patient advocate.
• Is responsible for accurate documentation of nursing care provided.
• Acts rapidly and effectively, managing self, patients and other employees during an emergency situation. Is able to function responsibly in the event of an Emergency situation (i.e. Disaster Plan, Fire Plan, Code Blue, and Bomb Threat).
• Maintains the confidentiality of all patient information.
B. INDIRECT PATIENT CARE:
• Identifies problems, plans and provides solutions and makes recommendations for improvements on the unit i.e. serves on Hospital committees.
• Participates in implementing planned changes and activities to improve the department/patient care.
• Works collaboratively with other departments and external partners as required.
• Orientates new employees as required.
• Participates and contributes to the performance evaluation of nursing service personnel on the unit.
• Supports, adheres and contributes to the maintaining and development, administrative, and nursing services policies and procedures (i.e. dress code).
• Demonstrates, participates, adheres and contributes to a health and safety culture on a daily basis.
Skills Required:
• Assesses, plans and develops self-objectives.
• Implements activities necessary to meet self-objectives.
• Evaluates self-objectives, revises and formulates new objectives.
• Each nurse maintains competence while striving to improve the quality of her/his clinical practice.
• Each nurse assesses and continually acquires knowledge relevant to the client care service she/he provides.
• Each nurse continually strives to improve the application of professional knowledge.
• Attends and evaluates required in-service education programs and shares specialized or unique nursing experiences and knowledge with peers.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and location, care and use of equipment and supplies.
• Performs related duties as directed by the Manager.
• Performs Charge Nurse responsibilities as assigned.
• Must be able to register with a regulatory body
Experience Required:
• Two (2) years nursing recent and related experience is required
• Knowledge of computer software programs such as Windows, internet is an asset.
Education Required:
• Completion of a university, college or other approved registered nursing program is required.
Wage & Hours: $ 39.07 - $ 56.00 / h
• Number of hours per day: 12
• Number of days per week: 4 on 4 off
• Number of hours per week: 75-80 hours bi-weekly
• Overtime starts after how many hours: after 1950 hours per year basis (as per Collective Agreement)
• Shift rotation: 4 on 4 off
