Job Duties:
As a Local Process Control & Optimization Specialist, you will report to the Maintenance Superintendent and collaborate closely with on-site and remote support teams, including Operations, IT, and OT. Your primary responsibility will be ensuring the smooth operation of the site, focusing on process flow optimization. You will also play a key role in implementing control systems, supporting projects start-up, and improving system reliability through design and programming enhancements. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, your efforts will maximize automation efficiency and support operational goals.
• Apply technical expertise to analyze and resolve technical issues and implementing effective solutions.
• Develop and support automation initiatives across multiple platforms.
• Enhance programming and instrumentation while supporting Industrial IT/OT initiatives, including code development and hardware specification.
• Optimize and troubleshoot automated processes specific to the lumber industry, including safety instrumented systems, debarkers, primary breakdown, green lumber management, drying, and dressing.
• Train electricians on automation systems.
• Provide work direction to electricians and coordinate work planning when needed for day to day and project work.
• Coach mill personnel on their machines and work with them to improve the process.
• Re-enforce and contribute to the development of standards, procedures, training manuals, and project documentation.
• Oversee communication networks for equipment control and monitoring, including IP addressing and managed switches.
• Participate in various ad hoc projects as required.
Skills Required:
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with independence and initiative.
• Strong planning, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
• Reliable, flexible and adaptable to diverse work environments and challenges.
• Strong work ethic, sound judgment, and commitment to continuous improvement.
• Comprehensive troubleshooting skills for electrical, control, and mechanical systems.
• Aptitude to configuring control systems in manufacturing environments, start-up projects.
• Working with PLC programming, installation, servicing, and troubleshooting of hardware and peripherals (e.g., VFDs, Servo Motors, and HMIs), ControlLogix PLC, Legacy PLC5, and associated programming suites, Allen-Bradley HMI and its programming suite is a great asset.
Experience Required:
• Two years of relevant experience.
Education Required:
• Two- or three-year college program in electronics engineering technology / related field, or university degree, or equivalent experience.
Wage & Hours: $120,000.00 / year
• Number of hours per day: 8
• Number of days per week: 5
• Number of hours per week: 40
• Overtime starts after how many hours: 40
• Shift rotation: n/a
