is in need of Pork Production Technician
NOC: 84120
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full Time – Permanent
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Working in the Finishing area of the hog barn:
a. Ensure proper handling and comfort of grower and market pigs.
b. Carry out feeding routine for finishing pigs.
c. Recognize and treat common diseases and disorders of finishing pigs (hernias, etc).
d. Interpret labels, handle & administer medications & vaccines for finishing pigs.
e. Weigh, sort, and load market hogs for transport.
2. Ensure proper handling of stock according to 5 freedoms from the Animal Welfare Codes of Practice.
3. Carry out Company programs to ensure production targets are met.
4. Carry out feeding routine for piglets, sows, and boars and perform routine service on feed equipment.
5. Provide water for animals and perform routine maintenance on water drinkers.
6. Ensure the Unit's bio-security protocol and Animal Welfare Codes of Practice are followed by all staff.
7. Operate a high-pressure washer and ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards for the Unit are met.
8. Follow safe manure management procedures when cleaning out manure pits.
9. Monitor and maintain proper ventilation and temperatures using an automated control system
10. Ensure accurate records are kept & submitted in a timely fashion to head office
11. Responsible to act safely in performing job duties at all times and reporting safety concerns to the safety representative and/or Unit Manager.
12. Other related duties as required.
WORKING HOURS: 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week; 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (scheduled days and time may vary depending on operational requirement), weekend work required, 2 varied days off per week
WAGE/BENEFITS: $19.11/hour / Disability, Dental, Extended Medical Insurance, Employer-Provided Pension, Life and Dependent Life, AD&D, Short and Long Term Disability, 6 days paid sick leave
