Responsibilities
• Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of water supply, drainage, and waste disposal systems.
• Plan and prepare material and labour estimates for plumbing installations, repairs, and maintenance work.
• Locate, measure, and mark positions for pipe connections, fixtures, and openings in walls, floors, and ceilings.
• Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate piping and fixtures while maintaining structural integrity.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, and assemble pipes using hand tools, power tools, and pipe-fitting equipment.
• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems in residential and commercial buildings.
• Test plumbing systems for leaks and proper operation using air and water pressure testing equipment.
• Diagnose and repair issues such as blocked drains, broken piping, leaking fixtures, and faulty valves.
• Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable plumbing codes, safety standards, and regulations.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other trades to coordinate work activities.
• Complete required service reports, installation records, and job documentation accurately and on time.
• Provide professional customer service, including explaining completed work and recommending maintenance or repairs.
• Provide on-the-job guidance and training to helpers as required, ensuring tasks are performed safely and according to company standards.
• Coordinate and take responsibility for assigned plumbing projects or job-site tasks, including organizing daily work activities and meeting project timelines.
• Work closely with company’s owner and other trades to ensure project requirements, quality standards, and safety expectations are met.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly handled and in good working condition.
• Carry out additional plumbing-related tasks, as assigned, to ensure timely and successful completion of projects.
Education, Experience and Skills required
• Completion of secondary school.
• Relevant trade education or a minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on plumbing experience.
• Strong working knowledge of plumbing tools, including commonly used hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot plumbing issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
• Sound understanding of workplace safety procedures, safe work practices, and hazard awareness.
• Strong communication skills to follow instructions, complete job-related documentation, and interact professionally with clients, supervisors, and team members.
• Ability to lead by example on job sites, coordinate daily tasks, and provide guidance to apprentices or helpers when required.
• Demonstrated ability to support, motivate, and work collaboratively with team members to meet project timelines and quality standards.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
