Take the patient's general medical and ophthalmic history. • Operate ophthalmic testing and measuring instruments to aid the Optometrist in assessing patients’ vision. • Review the diagnostic test and record results, and recommend eyewear. • Administer eye drops, ointments, and medications as directed by the Optometrist. • Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment in good working order. • Perform various administrative duties, which include billing to insurance companies and ordering optical frames and contact lenses from various suppliers. • Operate laboratory equipment to grind, cut, and edge lenses for eyeglasses according to prescriptions received from the Optometrist and fit lenses into frames. • Repairs for customers' frames, such as replacing frame screws, straightening frames, and changing temples. • Schedule and confirm eye exam appointments for the patients. • Maintain medical files and records for prescriptions and lab orders for eyeglasses. • Create and maintain various internal office administrative support procedures, such as document tracking and filing, and monthly reporting. • Order supplies and maintain inventory. • Regulate and establish office procedures and routines • Do recalls to the patients due for eyeglasses. • Manage and train other staff in procedures and use of current software. • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed. • Resolve and rectify technical issues related to medical equipment or computers.
