Job Description:
Asbury United Methodist Church of Orange Park is looking for a music director to oversee our music ministries, engaging the congregation and wider community in sharing their musical gifts and talents. The ideal candidate will be tech-savvy, appreciative of diverse music, up-to-date with changing worship trends, flexible in directing groups as needed, and capable of bringing out the best in other musicians and vocalists.

Currently, we have an adult choir, handbell choir, children’s choir, and praise band. The job requires 10-12 hours per week, including Sunday morning worship at 10 am and Wednesday evening rehearsals, 5:30-8:45 pm.

Director of Music
Annual Salary to be set by Staff Parish Relations Committee; part-time 10-12 hrs/wk; reports to Pastor
General Description: Oversees music ministry of Asbury UMC, under direction of Pastor and collaborating with other staff and volunteers. Includes oversight of music for all worship services, activities, or events, and all music groups.

Work Experience Requirements
• Experience and skill as a musician/vocalist sufficient to lead and develop other musicians/vocalists
• Ability to read music; familiarity with and appreciation for wide variety of music resources, particularly United Methodist hymnody and Contemporary Praise music
• Knowledge of and ability to play piano or another musical instrument
• Experience with and ability to direct variety of musical groups, vocal and instrumental
• Current knowledge of on-line streaming and in-house audio technology, licensing, and resources

Education Requirements:
Prefer background in sacred music or musical education and training, including conducting choirs; training in sound systems, on-line production and streaming, copyright and licensing regulations, liturgical music and arts all highly desirable

Comments:
Our music ministry currently includes one Sunday worship service at 10 am, one adult choir, one children’s choir, one handbell choir, and a praise band. Faithful attention to preparation, details, attendance, and engagement with the congregation and community is essential. Demonstrated commitment as a Christian is essential as well as familiarity with United Methodist doctrine and tradition.

Primary Responsibilities
• Collaborate with volunteers and staff to sustain meaningful music ministry that uses the gifts and talents of our congregation and community in praise of God.
• Plan and provide for all aspects of music for weekly Sunday worship, in-person and/or on-line.
• Plan and provide music for special seasonal worship (e.g. Advent/Lent/Holy Week), other activities and events.
• Lead or oversee designated leaders for all music groups, including rehearsing weekly and performing monthly.
• Foster a ministry-focused atmosphere with shared prayer and faith formation integral to musical group.
• Oversee sound/projection/livestreaming operations, working with other staff and volunteers.
• Participate in worship planning with worship design team.
• Maintain the musical resources library including electronic formats and proper licensing.
• Manage communications, resources, and scheduling of all aspects of music ministry.
