Parrish & Heimbecker is the largest Canadian-owned milling company. The P&H Milling Group sources wheat from Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada to produce quality flour and cereal products. The lineup includes hard red spring wheat flour for breads and other bakery products, soft winter wheat flour for cakes and cookies, as well as semolina flour for pasta, organic flour, and atta flour for chappati. In our specialty milling operation in Saskatoon, we also mill pea fractions.
From its mills in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Acton, Hanover, Hamilton and Cambridge, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Lethbridge, Alberta, the P&H Milling Group supplies flour to customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Iceland, and Pacific Rim countries.

We are currently seeking a motivated, forward-thinking, and dedicated individual to join our Milling Division as a Mill Manager in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As Mill Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for all milling-related operations, including the cleaning department, ensuring that all tasks are properly executed as per Company standards. This position will oversee and provide leadership to the Halifax Flour Mill but. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Manage the Mill and provide support to other departments by planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating overall milling operations.
• Daily, perform milling performance evaluations, inspection, and follow up on assigned duties through oversight of supervisors and by reviewing operational reports.
• Monitor, control and focus on improving efficiencies in the Mill through communication, troubleshooting, and working with staff.
• Liaise with production planning, transportation and maintenance on flour needs and downtime to ensure operational planning and production schedules are met.
• Oversee the development and implementation of standardized operating procedures (SOP).
• Maintain documents and records in accordance with pertinent regulatory and company policies, procedures, and standards and ensure compliance across all production activities.
• Ensure Health and Safety programs, policies, and procedures are being implemented and enforced.
• Maintain a safe working environment and a high standard of housekeeping and sanitation in accordance with BRCGS (Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards) and Food Safety procedures.
• Ensure the ongoing training of all personnel in accordance with company policies and standards.
• Implement and manage wheat grist changes as required.
• Work with the Maintenance Supervisor to develop and maintain the Mill preventive maintenance program.

Position Requirements:

• College or University degree in engineering, business administration or a similar field.
• Degree or diploma in flour milling from the Swiss Milling School or UK Flour Millers or equivalent training in flour milling science and technology is an asset.
• A minimum of 3 years of industry experience in the food or beverage processing or manufacturing industry.
• A minimum of 5 years of related supervisory experience is required with preference given to prior experience as a Mill Manager, Head Miller, Mill Lead Hand or Mill Supervisor.
• Ability to communicate orally and in written and electronic form.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

Compensation, Conditions and Benefits:

• Permanent, full-time position.
• Wage: $49.00 to $60.00 per hour depending on experience.
• 40 hours of work per week.
• Overtime pay applicable after 40 hours of work per week.
• 10% Bonus,
• Eligibility for the company’s comprehensive benefits program after 3 months of continuous employment, including Extended Health and Dental Benefits, Life Insurance, AD&D, and Disability coverage.
• Participation in the Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) begins on the first day of the month following 12 months of continuous employment.
