GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for the development and management of preventative maintenance (PM) programs and the design of new processes, make-ready techniques/procedures and machine modifications to improve manufacturing processes. This position performs research and development activities working in conjunction with Engineering, Creative, Maintenance, other plants and vendors to optimize greetings card production processes, procedures and equipment. Incumbent is responsible for facilitating a safe work environment through insuring that safe practices are designed into all processes and procedures. The incumbent is responsible for development and delivery of operating and safety training curriculum. This position will conduct routinely scheduled audits to provide ongoing observation and assessment of skilled staff to supervision and management and will conduct hands-on and classroom training for employees. Responsible for coordinating new materials testing and for issuing suggestions based on results / findings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Evaluate methods, materials and equipment for the primary purpose of reducing scrap, operating costs and increasing safety, quality, and productivity.
• Researches and recommends machine modifications required to optimize greeting card production machinery without compromising safety.
• Resolves complex non-standard problems and formulates recommendations
• Recommends and develops product, material, and equipment specifications.
• Represents American Greetings in meetings with other facilities, plant personnel, vendors and suppliers on technical and production related issues.
• Conducts scheduled routine procedural compliance audits to ensure Machine Specialists are operating equipment in accordance with written/posted safety and operating procedures and that equipment is capable of operating at OEM productivity levels.
• Determines need for and recommends appropriate training, testing and skills assessment.
• Functions as a mentor to improve the skill base of Machine Specialist associates and to instill and upgrade craftsmanship.
• Works closely with production coordinators to implement good safety and housekeeping practices.
• Works closely with supervision and engineering to develop safe operating procedures that ensure optimum operational capabilities of Machine Specialists and Equipment
• Leads and/or participates in team meetings and assignments relating to continuous improvement.
• Assists with daily problem resolution and procedural improvements.
• Functions effectively as a first line supervisor on an as needed basis
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience Required:

Required Length & Type of Experience:
3 years Machine Specialist in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Demonstrated Mechanical Proficiency
•Conceptual analytical skills.
•Proficient in Just in time (JIT) equipment and processes
•Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and successfully execute/fulfill multiple requests
•Competency as an end user of available computer programs to manage data, develop reporting tools and to process information.
•Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment in a leadership role
•Technical writing skills a plus. Encouraged to attend classes to develop this tool
