Freelance Medical Interpreter
Location: On-site, nationwide
Job Type: Freelance / Contract
We are seeking qualified and professional Freelance Medical Interpreters to provide on-site interpretation services nationwide, supporting patients from around the world. Interpreters will facilitate accurate and culturally appropriate communication between healthcare providers and patients with limited English proficiency in a variety of medical settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, complete, and impartial interpretation between patients and healthcare professionals
- Interpret medical terminology during appointments, consultations, procedures, and follow-ups
- Adhere to professional codes of ethics, confidentiality, and HIPAA requirements
- Maintain neutrality and professionalism at all times
- Clarify cultural nuances when appropriate to support effective communication
- Accurately convey tone, intent, and meaning without adding or omitting information
- Complete required documentation and time tracking as needed
Qualifications:
- Fluency in English and at least one additional language
- Proven experience as a medical interpreter preferred
- Medical interpreter certification (CCHI, NBCMI, or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent listening, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds
Compensation:
- Competitive pay based on experience and language pair
- Compensation provided per assignment or hourly
