Position Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: 9550 W Higgins Road, Suite 910, Rosemont, IL 60018
Position Responsibilities: Perform complex mechanical engineering tasks, to prepare engineering data for U.S. market readiness. Develop a compliance matrix covering EPA, DOE, UL, and ARRI requirements for the current R410a design to identify gaps. Create refrigeration system design files for the current R410a configuration. Prepare and update the risk assessment for the U.S. market. Design for A2L-class refrigerants, preferably R454b. Define specifications for new standard or bought-out components. Perform system-level software simulations. Complete a Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA). Build prototype units using prototype parts. Conduct performance testing to identify performance gaps. Prepare test reports that document gaps. Recommend design changes. Release orders for production-ready parts. Prepare units with production-ready components.
Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, PLUS five (5) years of experience. Experience must include demonstrable knowledge of: CAD, FEA & Piping Layout Tools; CAD 2D/3D-SolidEdge; DFMA analyses for chassis, frames, & service panel; 3D assemblies & 2D engineering drawings in CAD; creating structured EBOMs; sizing compressors, air-cooled condensers, evaporators, EEVs & line sets for R410A & R454b; updating R410A chiller control architecture to meet R454b (or A2L refrigerant) requirements; A2L safety engineering & mitigation; SAP for BOM & inventory management; ASHRAE; SEER & EER; refrigerant flammability mitigation, and; UL & ETL safety listing requirements for appliance. Travel to unanticipated client locations throughout the U.S., approximately 30% as required. May telecommute from any location within the U.S.
