- Design and teach advanced math lessons through a project-based curriculum that strengthens core skills, builds critical thinking, and encourages creativity in advanced elementary students.
- Use interdisciplinary methods, linking math with reading, writing, and real-world topics to support problem-solving and reasoning skills.
- Adjust teaching for different learners, using strategies that meet varied learning styles, language backgrounds, and cultures while keeping high academic standards.
- Coach students for national math contests, such as Mathleague and Math Kangaroo, by designing enrichment programs that build confidence, persistence, and excitement for math.
- Include culturally responsive teaching in lessons to promote inclusion, cross-cultural understanding, and social-emotional growth.
- Create and use tests and assignments to measure learning, track progress, find areas for improvement, and adapt instruction as needed.
- Work with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student growth, handle academic or behavior issues, and build strong home-school connections.
- Take part in curriculum planning and ongoing training, keeping up with new practices in math teaching for high-potential students to maintain the school’s high standards.
Job Requirements:
1. Master’s degree in mathematics, Education, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, or a foreign equivalent.
2. At least 1 year of full-time experience teaching math at the elementary or K-6 level. The experience should include:
- Teaching advanced or enrichment math to advanced learners.
- Coaching or preparing students for math competitions.
- Applying knowledge of accelerated/enrichment mathematics curricula and instructional frameworks for elementary instruction, including Beast Academy and the Building Thinking Classrooms approach.
3. Must have knowledge of cross-cultural teaching methodologies, including objective-based curriculum frameworks, including the Backward Design approach, for curriculum planning and lesson design.
4. Must have knowledge of multilingual and multicultural instructional strategies, including code-switching, culturally responsive teaching, and the funds-of-knowledge approach, for classroom instruction and the development of scaffolded activities to support multilingual and multicultural students.
