Job Description:
South32 Hermosa Inc. Safety leadership development through coaching and utilizing South32 systems and tools (safety standard, Lead Safely Everyday Program). Safety, health, and security, management systems development, deployment, improvement and governance in alignment with South32 standards; includes G360 system utilization, audits, assessments, assurance tasks, corporate function liaison, etc. Support safety and health risk owners on quality and robustness of their control environment/control plans. Manage risks and controls associated with sexual assault/harassment. Create, maintain, and improve site specific training, MSHA training, and annual refreshers. Develop an industrial hygiene program where health risks are anticipated, tested for and controls developed to protect the health of employees and the community. Policy, procedure, standard, tool development, updates, and response to changing scopes as project develops. Ensures compliance with MSHA, State mine inspectors, liaison with U.S. Border Patrol for immigrant activity and security as well as the U.S. Forest Service for wildland fire. Accountability for mine rescue and emergency responses. Must work cross functionally with project execution/construction, functional roles, studies, etc. Accountable for staffing a competent team to support construction period and operation while developing their skills and ensuring succession plan is actionable. Provide strategic health, safety, and security leadership. Provide input into the development of the HSS strategy, to ensure that it considers the HSS needs and risks at Hermosa and for major projects. Develop the HSS Project goals, based on the strategy and in alignment with the Global Function. Ensure HSS Operations work conforms to the appropriate South32 standard, systems, processes, and critical controls for HSS material risks. Effectively manage the HSS component of the Injury Management processes. Ensure support is provided to the operation for the management of all Significant Events, including all aspects of the investigation process and the reporting requirements. Develop and maintain governance of all aspects of HSS reporting including data integrity, accuracy and timeliness. Provide input and co-design into continuous improvement work. Develop routine HSS reports relating to HSS Operations work activities against plan, including challenges and planned mitigation actions. Execute work to improve HSS systems and processes as identified from assurance programs. Monitor Hermosa HSS process metrics and contribute to initiatives to improve the planning and execution of HSS function owned work, and work associated with HSS critical control. Manage HSS Operations operating budget, including input during the HSS budget development. Ensure all aspects of regulatory reporting are conducted to the required quality and in a timely manner. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Health Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or Safety Management and 4 years of experience required.
