Job Description

. Operating and driving trucks with three axles to transport goods and materials as required

. Safely loading, handling, and transporting goods and heavy cargo safely

. Recording both materials picked up and delivered, performing pre-trip, en-route and maintain their vehicles before driving, updating lines, routes, total mileage and breaks every day

. Reporting any accidents or delays to supervisors, ensuring inspection and repairs to keep their vehicle safe and legal to operate

. Obeying traffic laws and following established traffic and transportation procedures

. Verifying the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers

. Performing emergency repairs like changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains and spark plugs

. Reading maps and following written and verbal geographic directions; reporting mechanical problems with vehicles

Responsibilities
Tasks
. Address customers' complaints or concerns
. Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations
. Drive lighter, special purpose trucks
. Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes
. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
. Pay and receive payments for goods
. Perform brake adjustments
. Perform emergency roadside repairs
. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
. Perform preventive maintenance
. Receive and relay information to central dispatch
. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
. Transport and handle dangerous goods
