E3 Lithium is seeking a full-time Intermediate Process Engineer with experience in lithium processing, hydrometallurgy, crystallization, membrane separation, and electrochemical process development to join our team in Calgary, Alberta. The Intermediate Process Engineer will support the FEED and detailed engineering phases, including optimization.
This role is focused on the lithium processing infrastructure that forms part of the overall Central Processing Facility, which will process lithium from Leduc reservoir brine into Battery Grade Lithium Carbonate. The lithium processing infrastructure includes direct lithium extraction, membrane treatment with reverse osmosis and nanofiltration, ion exchange to remove impurities, and carbonation.

Job Requirements:
Education & Experience
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering
• At least 5 years of experience in process engineering, with a focus on process design.
• Experience is a design lead, process lead, or team lead.
• Significant experience in lithium process design including hydrometallurgy, membrane systems, crystallization, or related chemical processing projects.
• Demonstrated ability to be registered as a P.Eng. with APEGA, or a member in good standing.
• Experience with process equipment associated with membrane systems, ion exchange, evaporation, crystallization, centrifuge systems, and related process technologies.
• Experience designing evaporators, crystallizes and associated technologies for battery grade products.
• Proficiency with HYSYS, Aspen, OLI, or other process simulation software
• Experience writing process descriptions.
• Strong understanding of process safety, risk management, engineering design codes, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience working in EPC, owner’s engineering, or operating company environments is required.
• Experience supporting commissioning, pilot plant work, and process development.
• Experience in plant start up activities
Beneficial skills and experience
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry is considered an asset.
• Master's degree in a related field is considered an asset.
• Have developed, refined, and maintained heat and material balances.
• Materials selection experience, including work with non-metallic vessels and piping systems.
• Experience performing process optimization studies.
• Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience performing technical and economic assessments for technology selection.
Responsibilities
• Work within the facilities design team to deliver process-specific objectives related to the design, review, and execution of the lithium processing infrastructure throughout the FEED and Detailed Engineering Design phases.
• Provide technical support on membrane separation, ion exchange, evaporation, crystallization, hydrometallurgy, and electrochemical process systems.
• Support the development and validation of process simulations and modeling for the lithium processing infrastructure.
• Support broader process engineering objectives as needed for the Clearwater Central Process Facility development.
• Review and prepare critical design documents, including material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, equipment and line sizing, process descriptions, and process engineering reports in support of the lithium processing infrastructure design.
• Participate in PHA studies to ensure compliance with operational requirements.
• Ensure adherence of lithium processing infrastructure design to regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g. CSA, API, ASME, ISO).
• Collaborate with other technical disciplines, vendors, and stakeholders to progress engineering deliverables and develop solutions to complex engineering challenges.
• Offer technical support to ensure safe facility commissioning and start-up, and perform operational troubleshooting and optimization, for E3’s advanced demonstration program.
