Lumivera Technologies Inc. is a Richmond, British Columbia lighting design and engineering company. We design, certify and assemble thermally engineered LED fixtures for warehouse and distribution-centre operators, refrigerated grocery retailers and institutional facility operators across British Columbia and Western Canada. Our fixtures are built for the buildings where ordinary commercial lighting fails early: high ceilings, long operating hours, high ambient heat, and refrigerated and freezer space. Product design, thermal and optical engineering, certification management, quality control and final assembly all happen here in Richmond.
POSITION: Industrial Designer
NOC 2021: 22211 - Industrial designers

- Carry the mechanical, thermal and optical design of both launch fixture platforms, the Thermal-Guard High-Bay and the Cold-Chain Guard, from concept through design freeze.
- Develop design concepts, sketches and 3D models, and select materials and production methods appropriate to cold-forged aluminium heat sinks, heat-pipe thermal pathways and sealed cold-service enclosures.
- Produce and iterate physical prototypes, and revise designs against thermal and photometric test results.
- Prepare the full drawing and specification package that the company's manufacturing partner builds to, including tolerances, finishes and assembly detail.
- Design for serviceability, including the field-replaceable driver module and its keyed connector interface.
- Support the certification programme with the drawings, dimensional data and construction detail required for cUL/CSA submissions to UL 1598 and for DesignLights Consortium listing.
- Carry commercial assembly and end-of-line test duties from month 4, including the thermal interface station and torque-controlled fastening sequence.
- Provide engineering support for specifier enquiries from architects, engineers and electrical contractors.
- Document design methods and decisions as written procedures so the capability stays with the company.
REQUIREMENTS
Education: A bachelor's degree in industrial design, product design, mechanical engineering or a related discipline. A diploma in industrial design or mechanical design technology with directly relevant experience will also be considered.
Experience: Three or more years designing physical products taken from concept through to a manufacturing-ready drawing package. Experience in lighting, electronics enclosures, thermal management or another discipline where heat, sealing or material selection drives the design is an asset.
Skills:
- 3D CAD modelling and production of manufacturing drawings with dimensions and tolerances
- Design for manufacture and assembly, and selection of materials and production processes
- Prototype iteration informed by physical test data
- Preparation of specification documentation to a standard a contract manufacturer can build from
