General Statement of Duties:
The incumbent, under immediate supervision of the Information Technology Manager, is responsible for the installation and support of computer and audio-visual software and hardware for Library staff. The Information Technology Specialist is tasked with setting up, managing, and troubleshooting the technology systems the library uses to maintain computer and software networks.
Job Description:
• Installs, upgrades, maintains, and troubleshoots network hardware, infrastructure, and software.
• Provides phone, e-mail and helpdesk support to Library staff concerning software and hardware consisting of basic computer operations.
• Assist staff in the proper use of computers, printers, peripherals, and audio-visual equipment.
• Evaluates new products and performs operating system upgrades.
• Enters and retrieves information in an automated information system.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Responds to end user IT requests via phone, email, or ticket.
• Installs, configures, and customizes software for desktops and servers.
• Administers operating system patching, data backup, and recovery software.
• Configures network cabling, connectors, and interfaces.
• Demonstrates knowledge of Windows Desktops and Servers, installation.
• Experience working with Chromebook, Android, and Apple devices.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Azure Directory Services.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
• Ability to work independently, or as part of a team.
• Demonstrates the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with staff and public.
• Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Not required, but a plus if experienced with Envisionware library technology products
• Not required, but a plus if experienced with Sierra ILS (Integrated Library System)
Minimum Qualifications:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited two-year or NYS registered college or university or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field AND three (3) years of full-time paid experience in computer, server and network operations, software applications or peripherals; OR
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited two-year or NYS registered college or university or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate’s degree in computer science or a related field, AND five (5) years of full-time paid experience in computer, server and network operations, software applications or peripherals; OR
C. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
NOTE:
Successful completion of A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft 365 certifications may be substituted for one year of experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid New York State driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle is required at the date of the appointment and for the duration of employment.
Work Schedule: A combination of day, evening, and weekend hours up to 37.5 hours per week is required. Weekend on-call rotation, approximately one weekend per month: Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm.
Salary Range: $59,502.59 - $65,101.46
