About Tofino Brewing Co.
Tofino Brewing Co. is a craft brewery located on the west coast of Vancouver Island in Tofino, British Columbia. We are deeply rooted in the local surf, outdoor, and coastal culture that defines this community. Our Tasting Room is the heart of our brewery — a gathering place for locals and visitors that reflects the spirit of the region. We are committed to delivering a world-class hospitality experience while fostering genuine community connection.
Position Summary
The Hospitality Manager is a senior operational leadership role responsible for the overall performance, culture, and guest experience of the Tofino Brewing Co. Tasting Room. This is a complex, multifaceted management position requiring simultaneous oversight of people, finances, compliance, inventory, and brand presentation. The successful candidate will lead a team of 10–15 staff members, manage day-to-day Tasting Room operations, and drive revenue performance against defined targets. This role demands a high degree of autonomy, sound judgment, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, seasonal, remote coastal environment.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Human Resources
• Recruit, hire, onboard, and train all Tasting Room staff (team of 10–15)
• Develop and maintain comprehensive onboarding materials and service training programs
• Build and manage staff scheduling to optimize coverage across seasonal demand fluctuations, including weekends and holidays
• Lead regular staff meetings; communicate operational updates, policy changes, and product knowledge via internal channels (Slack)
• Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture

Guest Experience & Service Standards

• Set and enforce measurable hospitality and service standards across all staff to ensure consistency of experience
• Act as floor leader during peak periods, maintaining a visible, hands-on management presence
• Develop and uphold clear standards for Tasting Room aesthetic, atmosphere, lighting, music, and display
• Ensure the brewery environment is consistently clean, organized, and aligned with brand identity
• Create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere reflective of Tofino's coastal culture

Financial Performance

• Own and drive daily, monthly, and annual sales revenue targets for the Tasting Room
• Analyze sales data and operational metrics to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities
• Manage Tasting Room inventory and supplies: oversee stocking levels, conduct regular inventory counts, and place orders to avoid shortfalls or overstock
• Contribute to budgeting and cost management in coordination with brewery leadership

Beer & Product Knowledge
• Maintain an expert-level understanding of Tofino Brewing Co.'s beer portfolio, production methods, and ingredients
• Ensure all Tasting Room staff are consistently trained and tested on product knowledge
• Stay current on BC craft beer industry trends to inform programming and staff education
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
• Act as the primary point of contact for the BC Liquor Inspectorate, law enforcement,
and regulatory bodies
• Ensure full compliance with BC liquor service regulations and all applicable health and safety legislation
• Maintain valid Serving It Right certification and ensure all staff certifications are current
• Address and document any incidents or compliance issues promptly and professionally

Required Qualifications
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience leading a team of 5 or more in a hospitality, food service, or beverage industry setting
• Demonstrated experience in the brewing industry, restaurant industry, or comparable hospitality environment
• Solid, working knowledge of BC craft beer — including styles, ingredients, serving standards, and the local brewing landscape
• Experience managing staff scheduling, inventory, and compliance in a licensed establishment
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Valid Serving It Right certification (or ability to obtain prior to start date)
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and peak seasonal periods as required by a tourist-driven coastal operation
• Comfort working in a remote geographic location with limited access to large urban centres (Tofino is 4.5 hours from Victoria; 8 hours from Vancouver) — this is a significant operational reality affecting recruitment, staffing, and service delivery
Preferred Qualifications
• Post-secondary education in hospitality management, business, or a related field
• Experience with POS systems and sales reporting tools
• Prior experience working in or managing a brewery tasting room or taproom
• Familiarity with BC Liquor Control and Licensing Act requirements
• Cicerone Certification or equivalent beer education credential

Other
This position presents a uniquely complex management challenge that distinguishes it from standard food and beverage management roles:
1. Geographic isolation: Tofino is one of BC's most remote tourism destinations. Managing staffing, retention, training, and supply procurement in this environment requires exceptional ingenuity and planning.
2. Extreme seasonality: Tasting Room traffic surges dramatically during summer months, requiring dynamic scheduling, rapid staff onboarding, and the ability to maintain service standards under high-volume conditions.
3. Dual audience: The role requires balancing the expectations of a loyal local community with the demands of a high volume of international and domestic tourists— each requiring a different hospitality approach.
4. Brand stewardship: The Tasting Room is the brewery's primary consumer-facing channel. The manager is directly responsible for protecting and projecting the brewery's identity and reputation.
5. Regulatory complexity: Direct accountability to the BC Liquor Inspectorate in a high-traffic licensed environment requires consistent, expert-level compliance oversight.

Accommodation & Relocation
Please note that employer-provided accommodation is not available for this position. Candidates must arrange their own housing in or around Tofino, BC prior to their start date. Prospective applicants are encouraged to research the local rental market and housing availability in advance, as Tofino is a small, remote coastal community where housing can be limited, particularly during peak season.

How to Apply
Interested candidates are invited to submit a résumé and cover letter outlining their relevant management experience and connection to BC craft beer culture to [email protected]
Tofino Brewing Co. is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals and are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
