Job Description:
MnDOT is hiring multiple Temporary Highway Maintenance Workers/Snow & Ice (Transportation Generalist) positions to support roadway safety and infrastructure in the Twin Cities Metro area. These positions are essential to maintaining and reconstructing roadways and roadsides, ensuring safe travel for the public year-round.

Key Responsibilities:
Roadway Maintenance:
- Patching pavement
- Snow and ice control
- Guardrail and fence repair
- Landscaping and vegetation control
- Shoulder and slope repair

Equipment Operation & Maintenance:
- Operate heavy equipment (e.g., snowplows, loaders, trucks)
- Conduct daily pre- and post-trip inspections
- Identify and report vehicle issues
- Perform minor equipment repairs

Traffic Control & Safety:
- Set up and maintain traffic control zones
- Ensure safety compliance during maintenance operations

Metro Truck Station locations: Chaska, Eden Prairie, Golden Valley Traffic Control/Graffiti, Jordan, Mendota Nights, Oakdale Traffic Services, and Plymouth

Position Details
Starting Salary: $25.19 – $31.60 per hour
Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time
Work Week: 40 hours

Work Schedule:
Summer Days Shift: Monday–Thursday: 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Friday: 6:30 AM – 10:30 AM
Winter Days Shift: Monday–Friday: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Nights Shift: Monday evening – Friday morning: 7:00 PM – 5:30 AM (Employees may be eligible for shift differential and Night Maintenance Premium pay).
**Workdays, shifts, and hours will vary based on the operational needs of each individual truck station. Assignments may include day, evening, overnight, or weekend shifts. Employees may be required to work overtime, alternate shifts, or respond to emergency situations and seasonal demands as needed. Due to the nature of the work, incumbents must have immediate access to a telephone and be able to report to their assigned work location within one hour of being called.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Possession of a valid Class A or Class B CDL with no air brake restriction and a tanker endorsement is required. (This must be clearly listed on your resume.)
AND
Experience (must be detailed on resume): One (1) year of experience in any of the following:
- Snow and ice operations; Soils or road surface maintenance; Roadside or bridge maintenance; Sign installation/maintenance; Related work (e.g., commercial driving, landscaping, heavy equipment operation, or farm work)
OR
- Completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (minimum 60 semester or 90 quarter credits) may substitute for one year of experience
AND
- Working knowledge of English is required to effectively read, write, speak, and comprehend both oral and written information. This includes the ability to communicate with coworkers and the general public in person, over two-way radios, and through other electronic devices, as well as to maintain routine written logs and basic records.

**Veterans may be eligible for a waiver of CDL based on military experience with a VMET DD2586.

As part of the hiring contingencies candidates will be required to pass a computerized ACT math and reading test.
