Job Description:

Graphic Designer is needed to perform the following duties:

• The designer will work with the creative director to research and determine short- and long-term positioning, marketing and branding strategies for clients.
• The designer will work with the creative director to analyze and determine, through research & strategy, each client’s individual needs
• The designer will work with the creative director to define the essence of what the client is offering in order to develop creative concepts that visualize this essence
• The designer will work with the creative director to define the goals and unique positioning of the client
• The designer will conduct a comprehensive competitive audit of the client and present the findings to the creative director
• The designer will work with the creative director to define the target audience profiles and requirements
• All the findings from the research above are synthesized into a creative brief which outlines the necessary strategic foundation for the project.
• The designer will compile the findings for the creative brief and prepare the document for client review.
• The designer must generate unique visual solutions in response to the creative brief.
• All concepts must meet the communication and business goals outlined in the creative brief.
• The designer will create unique creative direction(s) using their knowledge of typography, color palettes, illustration, editorial design and innovative technology solutions for media projects.
• The creative direction(s) must be articulated over a variety of mediums such as print, advertising and environmental design. Presentation layouts must be striking.
• The creative direction(s) must be approached with a fresh perspective whilst working within the boundaries of the creative brief and the client proposal terms
• The designer must work with any third party vendors throughout this process to ensure the design directions meet the specifications and creative requirements of the creative brief (e.g, working with copywriter to achieve compelling narratives and language for not only design elements, but layouts to present design directions).
• The designer must create the client presentation which includes the different creative concepts. Designer will work closely with the creative director to ensure the directions meet the goals of the creative brief.
• The designer must have honed strong time management skills; following the proposed timeline.
• All the steps outlined above require the designer to think strategically and conceptually while managing the proposal timeline.
• Once the creative directions are presented to the client and one direction is selected by the client, the designer must constructively apply client feedback to the selected direction.
• The designer must be able to provide additional solutions for design refinements based on client feedback to the selected direction.
• All design elements must respond to the client’s and PS New York’s creative director feedback to the selected creative direction in order to achieve the desired effect of strong conceptual thinking & problem solving.
• The designer will make refinements to selected creative direction on messaging, thematic direction, content hierarchy, application of photography, illustration, color palette, call-to-actions, typography, etc.
• After refinements are made, final designs are presented to client for final approval, in order to move to the next Phase - Production.
• The designer will develop the final presentation deck for client presentation (e.g mocking print collateral like booklets, mocking media elements such as HTML with gif’s and motion graphics)
• The designer will liaise with clients through face-to-face interactions and in-depth observations to ensure the project requirements are met.
• The designer will coordinate the efforts internally and externally; with other designers, interns, and third party contractors or consultants in order to produce the most effect means of getting the message (of the creative direction chosen) across in print and electronic media.
• The designer will prepare all elements for hand-off to printers, programmers, fabricators, etc.
• For printers, the designer will create mechanicals for all the printed elements and outline each elements printing specifications.
• For programmers, the designer will prepare PSDs or sketch files for delivery to the programmers. The designer will also prep all the assets for the website (copy, images, video etc…)
• For fabricators, the designer will provide scaled mechanicals for printing and provide detailed elevations for the installer.
• The designer will liase with vendors, review and analyze final estimates and quotes (costs and in accordance with project timeline) before handing off files for production.
• The designer will assist and manage on-site production on press printing, fabricator installations, live programming testing, etc to provide timeline feedback and ensure all elements of design are being executed to the highest attention to detail.
• The designer will negotiate with vendors where required about item details, specifications, material listings, costs, quotations, process and lead times.
• The designer will facilitate cost analysis, payment and correspondences between vendors and clients when necessary.
• The designer will ensure all aspects of the project run smoothly and ensure production agendas remain on track and within the defined project parameters.
• The designer is responsible for monitoring project plans, schedules, work hours, estimating project costs with outside vendors and working with clients/account managers
• The designer will coordinate with printers, fabricators, and programmers to insure projects are on budget and meeting the project timeline requirements and to insure all the design elements are being executed to the highest attention to detail.
• With the printers, the designer will coordinate the delivery and production status of collateral being delivered. As necessary, the designer will go on site for press checks, while the materials are being printed.
• With environmental installations, the designer will work the material requirements, elevations, and design guidelines to ensure the printer / installer is given plentiful instruction
• With the programmers, the designer will complete a comprehensive review of all programmed pages and QA them in various formats (desktop, IPAD and mobile). They will provide the developers with feedback and re-review the website once the edits have been made.
• They will secure the information from the client on hosting and email requirements.
• They will outline with the client a launch date and insure the process goes smoothly with the programmers

Bachelor’s Degree is required in Graphic Arts or Graphic Design or Art & Technology.
