Job Summary:
As our operations continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Grain Farm Supervisor to join our team.
The Grain Farm Supervisor will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operations of the farm. This position is ideal for a self-starter with excellent organization and communication skills
Duties and responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
Oversee and coordinate day-to-day crop production activities, including seeding, fertilizing, spraying, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting grain, oilseed, and pulse crops.
Monitor crop conditions and direct field operations to ensure optimal growth, yield, and production efficiency.
Assign tasks to farm workers and harvest labourers, provide guidance during fieldwork, and supervise seasonal harvest operations.
Plan and organize daily and seasonal work activities by preparing work schedules and implementing operational procedures for field and harvest crews.
Ensure adherence to farm safety protocols and all other farm policies during all farming activities.
Maintain accurate production, inventory, and quality assurance records related to crop yields, inputs, and field operations.
Operate a variety of agricultural machinery and equipment, including combines, tractors, grain carts, and transport trucks.
Coordinate harvest logistics, including combine and grain cart operations and transportation of harvested crops.
Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on farm machinery and vehicles, including combines, tractors, planters, rippers, discs, ploughs, and semi-trucks.
Oversee upkeep of farm infrastructure, equipment, and operational supplies to ensure readiness for field activities.
Participate in general farm operations as required, including crop planting, cultivation, spraying, harvesting, fencing, and other routine tasks as required.
During the winter months, duties may include some or all of the following:
Grain Rotation:
Monitor grain storage conditions and rotate stock as necessary to minimize spoilage and maintain quality.
Grain Cleaning:
Oversee the cleaning process to remove impurities, debris, and foreign materials from harvested grain.
Ensure equipment is properly calibrated and maintained for efficient cleaning operations.
Monitor grain quality standards and implement corrective measures.
Grain Movement:
Coordinate the movement of grain from fields to storage facilities using appropriate handling equipment and transportation methods.
Supervise loading and unloading operations to prevent damage and ensure safety protocols are followed.
Record grain movement and storage locations – inventory control.
Grain Packaging:
Supervise the packaging process to prepare grain for sale or further processing.
Ensure packaging materials meet regulatory standards and customer specifications.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in packaging areas to prevent contamination and ensure product integrity.
Grain Shipping:
Work with logistics to arrange delivery of grain.
Monitor shipping activities to ensure on-time delivery and customer satisfaction.
Provide clear instructions and training to staff involved in grain handling and processing activities.
Foster teamwork and cooperation among team members to achieve common goals.
Lead by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to safety at all times.
Address any issues or concerns promptly and implement corrective actions as needed.
By supervising the rotation, cleaning, movement, packaging, and shipping of grain, the Grain Farm Supervisor ensures that all aspects of grain production and distribution are managed efficiently and effectively. By maintaining quality standards, optimizing processes, and fostering a skilled workforce, the supervisor contributes to the overall success and sustainability of the grain farm operation.
Qualifications:
Completion of secondary school (high school diploma or equivalent).
A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in crop production, preferably on farms producing grains, oilseeds, or pulse crops.
Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining agricultural machinery such as tractors, combines, grain carts, and other farm equipment.
Must possess a valid driver’s licence;
Previous experience supervising or coordinating farm workers or harvest crews is considered a strong asset.
Strong knowledge of crop production practices, including seeding, fertilizing, spraying, cultivating, and harvesting.
Ability to operate, maintain, and perform basic repairs on a variety of agricultural machinery and equipment.
Practical understanding of farm safety procedures and safe equipment operation.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and address operational issues in a timely manner.
Strong leadership and supervisory abilities with the capacity to guide and support farm workers.
Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong work ethic and willingness to work long or flexible hours during planting and harvest seasons.
Physically capable of performing demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining quality and safety standards.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.

This position is performed primarily on a working farm specializing in the production of grains, oilseeds, and pulses. Duties take place outdoors and in agricultural settings where employees may be exposed to typical farm-related hazards, including operating heavy machinery, working around equipment and livestock infrastructure, and varying weather conditions.
