Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Job description:
Objective: Support role for entire Pet Clinic Veterinary Team. Assist the Veterinarian, Veterinary Technicians, and Front Desk staff with pre-surgical drop-off, post-surgical pick-up, Vaccine Clinics, Wellness exams, walk-ins, tech appointments, administrative support, and reception duties.
Essential Functions:
General Animal/Veterinary Care
· Handle and restrain animals properly and safely during Vaccine Clinics, pre- and post-surgery, Wellness exams, tech appointments, etc., including fractious and feral animals
· Take animal weight as needed
· Obtain patient history at beginning of appointments and communicate that information to Veterinarian or Vet Tech
· Perform checks on animals for illness, infestations, injuries, or abnormalities
· Maintain proper animal identification, ensuring that appropriate paperwork accompanies animals throughout their stay in the Pet Clinic
· Administer medications prescribed by Veterinarians
· Participate in the post-euthanasia disposal of animals, if required
Animal Surgical Care
· Assist in pre-surgical shave and prep of animal
· Monitor animals recovering from anesthesia
· Perform post-surgical duties and checks to ensure proper recovery of the animal
· Assist the Veterinarian/Veterinarian Technicians when needed
· Clean instruments and wrap packs
Customer Service
· Provide support for the Clinic Reception Desk and Clinic Call Center, as needed
o Answer incoming calls/emails, and check/return messages
o Schedule appointments
o Update cancellations
o Fill openings as needed
o Confirm appointments the day before
o Review client files in order to process timely reminders
o Greet and assist all visitors/volunteers
o Process paperwork as needed
· Assist with the flow of incoming animals throughout designated areas, help check clients in and out of their appointments, following AWA SOPs
· Meet and talk with clients during admission, re-check exams, Vaccination Clinics, and surgical release, give accurate and understandable instructions for post-surgical care and treatments
· Provide information on flea/tick treatment, spay/neuter surgery, routine testing and test results, Clinic practices, or general questions about various aspects of animal care
· Relay important follow-up care to discharged patients as requested by the Veterinarian Tech staff
Facility Management
· Keep animal cages clean and sanitize.
· Clean and organize lobby area of the Clinic, Reception Desks, and all other surrounding Clinic areas (exams rooms, prep areas, etc.)
· Routinely participate in stocking supply orders, help manage accurate inventory list
· Perform minor maintenance tasks on all equipment, and report any problems appropriately
· Maintain all safety standards at all times
Financial Management
· Ensure deposits are taken and accurately applied to the client account when assisting at the Reception Desk
· Process all invoicing at the close of each appointment when assisting at the Reception Desk
Perform other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
· Commitment to the humane treatment of animals
· Ability to accept and explain the concepts of prepubescent sterilization, pre-release sterilization of adopted animals and humane euthanasia
· Must recognize or be willing to gain working knowledge of normal and abnormal health and behavioral conditions of the patients, pre- and post-surgery
· Must possess knowledge of the diseases and disorders of animals, spay and neuter and related procedures, and animal handling and restraint
· Must have familiarity with medical terminology and medical knowledge
· Knowledge of disinfecting procedures, antisepsis and asepsis
· Required to adhere to all organizational policies and procedures and safety standards
· Ability to quickly learn and adapt to changes in policies, procedures, and safety standards
· Must maintain professional appearance and the ability to tactfully and effectively work with the public

· 1-3 years’ experience in customer service and or experience working with animals
· Working knowledge of computers and medical software
Physical Factors:

· Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and over 50 lbs. with assistance
· Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, high noise levels, wet surfaces, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects
· Long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, as well as telephone and computer work, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions may be required.
