Job Code / NOC / SOC:
Category: Engineering
Job Description:
• Perform real-time troubleshooting on formation- and module-related automated equipment, responding to equipment alarms, abnormal process behavior, and unexpected downtime to minimize production impact;
• Analyze formation and module process parameters, including charge and discharge profiles, voltage, current, temperature, open-circuit voltage, insulation resistance, capacity retention, and coulombic efficiency, to identify deviations from normal ranges;
• Review production yield data, defect trends, and downtime history related to formation and module processes, and work with relevant teams to address root causes impacting line performance;
• Monitor yield and quality performance of formation and module processes across production lines by tracking battery cell and module performance in real time and investigating unusual patterns;
• Conduct cell Tear-Down Analysis (“TDA”), X-ray review, and other failure analysis activities to investigate internal cell conditions, failure modes, and formation- and module-related issues;
• Lead root cause investigations of battery cell and module quality issues by tracing abnormal conditions to formation channels, recipe steps, upstream processes, or module assembly conditions;
• Lead investigations of customer quality concerns related to formation and module processes by analyzing production and test data to determine whether issues are linked to process conditions;
• Communicate tear-down analysis findings, defect trends, and investigation results to production, engineering, quality, and cross-functional teams to support corrective actions;
• Adjust and optimize formation process conditions, aging conditions, and module-related parameters based on data analysis, tear-down results, engineering judgment, and on-site observations;
• Work closely with relevant teams to resolve recurring equipment and process issues, support preventive actions, and apply validated improvements to mass production lines;
• Support ramp-up activities for new or modified battery cell and module designs by assisting with parameter setup, initial production monitoring, and process stabilization during early mass production stages;
• Utilize production data analytics software, including Oi-Tas and TIBCO Spotfire, to develop and maintain dashboards, trend charts, and visual tools for monitoring process performance and defect patterns;
• Develop and improve defect detection and inspection methods, including image-based analysis, computer vision, and anomaly detection techniques, for battery cell and module quality monitoring; and
• Provide on-the-job guidance, training, and onboarding support to engineers, operators, and technicians on formation and module process fundamentals, standard operating procedures, and responses to abnormal conditions.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related technical field with at least two (2) years of experience in battery process engineering in the electric vehicle battery industry;
• Experience in battery formation process monitoring, production support, process adjustment, quality analysis, defect detection, yield support, or production stabilization;
• Experience identifying and addressing production issues, process abnormalities, or equipment-related issues, including root cause analysis, corrective actions, and cross-functional technical support; and
• Ability to support process operations, quality-related activities, data analysis, operator training, or technical support related to process procedures and production systems.
