Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler, BC is currently looking for a qualified First Cook to join our team.
Position: First Cook
Reports To – Executive Chef & Sous Chefs
Position Summary
The First Cook is a key member of the culinary brigade who is responsible for the execution of high-quality food in a consistent manner. The First Cook must be prepared to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment while maintaining strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks and provide guidance to junior cooks and kitchen helpers.
Job Duties:
- Prepare and cook food ordered in the restaurant and lounge in a timely manner.
- Set up a workstation, restock food items throughout the shift and prep food items.
- Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation specs.
- Supervise junior cooks and kitchen helpers to ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Train junior cooks and kitchen helpers in preparation, cooking and handling of food.
- Manage kitchen operations.
- Prep and cook food for events, café and restaurants.
- Clean kitchen and work areas and maintain proper food safety and sanitary standards.
- Work with the front of house team to ensure pacing and any special guest requests are met (including allergies and food intolerances).
- Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.

Employment Term: Full-time, Permanent
Language of Work: English
Wage: $23.00~$25.00 per hour (depending on skill sets)
Work Hours: 32-40 hours per week
Vacation: 4% vacation accrual
Benefit: Extended health care and dental care (after 6 months of full-time employment), staff meals during shifts, on-site parking

- A minimum of 2 years of commercial cooking experience is required.
- English skills for communication are required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of food and catering trends, quality, production, food cost controls, and presentation is required.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in presentation.
- Ability to work standing 100% of the time with the ability to transport up to 50lbs on occasion.
- A minimum of 2 years of commercial cooking experience is required.
