Job Description:
Essential Functions:
- Inspects, repairs and maintains vehicles, apparatus, equipment, hydraulic and air powered tools
- Responds to incidents as directed
- May be required to complete modified firefighter recruit training and maintain basic skills
- Assists in training personnel in the operation and maintenance of equipment
- Inspects and repairs all light and heavy hydraulic rescue tools, air powered rescue tools and gasoline powered chain saws
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and repair work on division vehicles
- Maintains and repairs all mounted and removable fire fighting equipment and tools
- Installs visa bars (light on top of division vehicles)
- Performs field level maintenance and inspection of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment
- Maintains and repairs SCBA air tanks
- Assists in maintaining machinery such as air compressors and belt sanders
- Constructs straps, belts and harnesses
- Receives, reads and compiles work orders
- Prepares requisitions for parts
- Makes out daily work sheets
- Takes inventory of supplies and records parts used each day
- Performs related work
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- Two years of full time work experience working on heavy trucks and equipment, including one year in the repair of small tools, portable generators and power tools
Other Minimums:
- Must be of good moral character, with no criminal or felony record inconsistent with the provisions of this paragraph. Unacceptable will be persons who have been convicted of a felony, or who have any criminal action pending against them
- An applicant may be disqualified for multiple misdemeanors, an unacceptable criminal record, or multiple traffic violations
- Applicants who have bought or sold marijuana within three years of application, or have bought or sold any controlled substance or narcotic drug without a prescription within six years of application will be disqualified
- Must submit to a pre-employment drug screening
- Must submit to a pre-employment polygraph test
- Must pass a medical examination
- Must not be a current user of illegal drugs
- Must have current certification in the following ASE Modules: A1, A5, A6, A7 and A8
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:
- Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
- Communicates with individuals in person and utilizes all types of communication media
- Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing
- Lifts and carries items weighing in excess of 100 pounds in a team setting
- Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements
- Operates tools and equipment and works in confined spaces
