Job Duties:
The Field Service Technicians, Power Systems work on our customer sites to safely and effectively diagnose and repair Caterpillar Power Systems Equipment in a timely manner while maintaining extremely high standards and ensuring positive customer experiences.
• Perform all reasonable steps and precautions to guarantee Toromont’s Health and Safety Guidelines are followed and upheld by sub-contractors
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gensets, industrial engines, marine engines, controls and other auxiliary equipment, such as Automatic Transfer Switches, Switchgear and Uninterruptible Power Supplies
• Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and mechanical repairs on engines and generators in both the shop and on customer sites
• Perform basic troubleshooting for all equipment and provide detailed service reports and recommendations on repairs and upgrades
• Use electrical and mechanical testing and calibrating equipment to diagnose and service equipment
• Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
• Submit accurate service reports, time cards and other required paperwork in a timely manner
• Operate and connect load banks in a test environment
• Perform engine overhauls
• Demonstrate safe and healthy work behaviors and practices at all times in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policy, Programs and initiatives
Skills Required:
• Troubleshooting/diagnosing, repairing to Caterpillar quality standards
• Safety conscious with a diverse knowledge of Caterpillar products and systems
• A basic knowledge of cutting, welding and fabrication
• Able to read and understand prints, drawings, and technical bulletins
• Analytical with knowledge of mechanics in electrical and hydraulic systems
• Customer centric with excellent relationship management
• Proven ability to complete repairs/service within established time guidelines in a busy, fast paced environment where priorities are constantly changing
• Self-directed team player with strong initiative, business acumen and integrity
• Focused, energetic, and organized with superior attention to detail and a sense of urgency
• Willing to work flexible shifts to meet the demands of the business, including afternoon shifts
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with Cat systems (ET and SIS would be beneficial)
• Knowledge of competitors’ equipment would be an asset
• Adaptable to on-call working schedules and willing to work in all weather conditions
Experience Required:
• 3 - 5 years of Caterpillar Engine Experience (experience with Cat C27, C32, 3500 and/or Cat 3600 and/or MAK and MWM engines)
• Proven Cat engine experience is a “must have”, and other may include Cummins, Detroit, MTU, EMD, Aggreko, Eaton
Education Required:
• Trade Diploma or College diploma or equivalent technical experience
Wage & Hours: $ 48.16 per hour
• Number of hours per day: 8-12 hours
• Number of days per week: 4-7 days
• Number of hours per week: 40 hours per week
• Overtime starts after how many hours: after 40 hours weekly
• Shift rotation (as applicable): as needed
