Are you looking for an opportunity to work with advanced thin-film processing tools? These systems deliver cutting-edge performance in thin-film deposition (PVD) and support the production of next-generation hard disk media and volatile/non-volatile memory devices. We have an opening in San Jose, CA for a field-based role that interfaces directly with customers to support equipment operation, troubleshooting, and installations.
This position provides technical support for high-vacuum PVD equipment and related robotics. Candidates must understand vacuum technology and semiconductor manufacturing practices and be able to apply this knowledge in a cleanroom environment. On-call support and occasional off-shift work may be required. Full-time onsite presence is required.
Responsibilities
This is a customer-facing role and requires compliance with customer site policies, which may include COVID-19–related requirements.
Monitor, inspect, calibrate, and maintain semiconductor process equipment to minimize downtime.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues and implement corrective actions.
Collect data related to software issues and coordinate with engineering teams overseas.
Document all maintenance and service activities through detailed field reports.
Install and update equipment control software and maintain revision records.
Participate in equipment installations at customer sites.
Manage service-part inventory to ensure availability for repairs.
Provide training and support to other technicians.
Communicate effectively with customers and internal engineering teams.
Escalate complex or advanced repair issues to senior personnel.
Qualifications
HS Diploma or GED required, AA or BS in a related field preferred.
1–2 years of relevant experience (semiconductor field service, equipment technician, or technical engineering role).
Experience with PVD or semiconductor vacuum equipment.
Strong background with multi-chamber cluster systems and robotics (highly preferred).
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
PLC or related software experience is a plus.
Ability to work independently after 3–6 months of training.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to determine repair paths and recommend spare parts for PMs and repairs.
Domestic travel up to 25%; international travel for training may be required.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Ability to work flexible shifts.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Bilingual communication skills helpful but not required.
MUST HAVE:
HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required. AA OR BS degree in a related field is preferred, plus 1-2 years of related experience (i.e. FSE or Technician position in a semiconductor equipment company or a technical position in the engineering field)
PVD or semiconductor vacuum equipment experience
Multi chamber cluster systems and robotics experience
Ability to understand electrical and mechanical drawings for troubleshooting
Experience with PLC and other software applications is a plus
Ability to work independently following 3-6 months of on-the-job training
Decide on problem solving road map and follow methodical means to resolution
Decide and recommend spare and consumable parts for PM’s and repairs
