Job Description:
Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans.
Splice and test fiber optic cables in all outside plant applications – aerial, burial and underground, on both
newly placed and existing cables.
Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any
issues or expected delays.

Work outdoors in various conditions to place copper or fiber optic telecommunication cables.
Troubleshoot and locate fibre faults.
Use an optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) for testing and troubleshooting.

Clean and maintain tools and equipment.

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.
Experience: At least 3 years of experience in the field is required. In the event that the candidate does not meet the 3 years of experience, then a college diploma or bachelor’s degree related to the field plus 1 year of experience as a Fibre optic cable splicer are required to qualify.
Ability to use OTDR is required.
Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, Attention to detail, Ability to distinguish between colours, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Bending, crouching, kneeling, Tight deadlines, Repetitive tasks, Handling heavy loads, Physically demanding, Manual dexterity.
Computer and technology knowledge: MS Office
Work site environment: Outdoors, Underground, At heights, Confined spaces
