About the Role :
Canadian Canning supplies aluminum and glass packaging — brites, printed cans, shrink sleeves, can ends and bottles — to beverage brands across North America, and runs its own shrink-sleeving plant and warehouse in Hamilton. We are putting the entire business onto Odoo: order intake, artwork approval, sleeving and printing production, warehousing, dunnage, outbound freight, invoicing and payroll.
We’re hiring the person who will own that platform. You will run requirements across every module we deploy, design the solutions, write the specifications our in-house developer builds from, test and accept each release, and own the system in production. This is the senior systems role in the business. It reports to the owner and directs one developer.
Main Job Duties:
Requirements analysis and business studies
1. Confer with department leads and end users across sales, customer service, accounting, warehouse, production and human resources to identify, analyze and document business and systems requirements for each Odoo module deployed: Sales, Contacts, Website, Accounting, Inventory, Manufacturing, Employees, Payroll, Attendances, Time Off, Barcode, Expenses, Sign, Helpdesk and Project.
2. Conduct business and technical studies of the company’s order-to-cash cycle - quotation, artwork approval, blank can procurement, sleeve printing, sleeve application, warehousing, dunnage handling, outbound freight and invoicing - documenting as-is workflows, data flows, control points and transaction volumes.
3. Analyze gaps between current spreadsheet and manual processes and target Odoo functionality; design to-be process flows and produce process maps, requirement registers and gap analyses for management sign-off before each module is configured.
Systems design and implementation
4. Design and implement information systems business solutions by configuring Odoo modules, including the product master and variant structure for brites, printed cans, sleeves, can ends and bottles; inventory routes, operation types and multi-location warehouse structure; bills of materials and work orders for sleeving and printing operations; and barcode-driven receiving, put-away, picking and shipping workflows.
5. Configure Accounting and Payroll for Canadian operations, including chart of accounts, tax treatment, customer and vendor terms, cost accounting for sleeving and printing runs, and payroll, attendance, time-off and expense workflows.
6. Prepare detailed functional specifications for the company’s custom modules - Dunnage (returnable pallets, top frames, layer pads and slip sheets tracked by customer, with balances and deposits), Logistics (carrier assignment, freight rating and costing, shipment consolidation, delivery scheduling and proof of delivery) and the CCI Dashboard Overview (consolidated operational and financial reporting across sales, production, inventory and logistics) - covering data models, field-level definitions, workflows, user roles, reporting outputs and integration points.
7. Define requirements and solution design for the Customer Portal: portal user provisioning and access rules, live order and shipment status, artwork and proof approval workflow, visibility of customer-owned can and sleeve inventory held in our warehouse, reorder workflows and self-service document access.
8. Design and specify the pricelist framework, including customer-specific pricing, quantity-break structures, currency handling and margin controls, and validate pricing outcomes against historical orders.
9. Design and specify integrations between Odoo and the company website, carrier systems and banking and accounting data flows, defining file formats, mapping rules and error-handling procedures.
Directing development and quality assurance
10. Direct and co-ordinate the work of the in-house developer: break specifications into development tasks, set priorities and delivery dates, provide direction through the build, review delivered functionality and configuration against specification, and authorize promotion from test to production.
11. Develop and implement policies and procedures throughout the system development life cycle, including requirements sign-off, change control and change request logging, version control practice, sandbox and staging environment management, release management and post-implementation review.
12. Conduct reviews to assess quality assurance practices, software products and information systems; design and execute user acceptance test plans and test scripts for each module and release; co-ordinate business-user testing; log, triage and re-test defects; and complete regression testing before every cutover.
13. Plan, execute, validate and reconcile data migration from existing systems and spreadsheets into Odoo, covering customer and contact records, product and pricing data, open orders, inventory positions including customer-owned stock, vendor records and opening accounting balances.
Systems administration, controls and support
14. Research and document information systems to identify and resolve discrepancies between system records and physical inventory counts, production output, shipment records and financial results, tracing root causes through configuration, code or user process.
15. Design and administer user access rights, record rules and segregation-of-duties controls across accounting, payroll, employee and customer data, and conduct periodic access reviews.
16. Perform preventive maintenance on computer systems: monitor system and database performance, manage backup and restore procedures, apply patches, and plan, test and execute Odoo version upgrades on the annual release cycle, including regression testing of all customizations.
17. Provide advice to management on information systems strategy, policy, management and service delivery, including module sequencing and rollout priorities, licensing and hosting options, the integration roadmap, disaster recovery and the IT budget.
18. Prepare reports and documentation for management on the status, operation and maintenance of the system, covering implementation progress, defect and change request status, system performance and user adoption.
Training and evaluation
19. Train super-users and end users across departments; prepare and maintain user guides, standard operating procedures, quick-reference material and training sessions for each module rollout; and provide post-go-live support to business users.
20. Research and evaluate software products, Odoo applications and third-party modules against business requirements, assess build-versus-buy options, and make recommendations to management.
