Job Description
Capital Fire & Security Inc. is seeking a skilled Electronic Technician to install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and maintain fire alarm systems across new construction and retrofit projects. This is a hands-on field role with a primary focus on fire alarm and life safety systems, supported by low-voltage security system installation, and light exposure to structured cabling and telecommunications equipment as part of integrated system installs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fire Alarm & Life Safety (primary focus)
• Install, inspect, test, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm systems (initiating devices, notification appliances, control panels) in accordance with CFAA standards and CAN/ULC-S524, S536, and S537, NFPA, and Ontario Fire Code requirements.
• Conduct monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual fire alarm inspections and verifications.
• Perform system commissioning, programming, and calibration of fire alarm panels and components.
• Diagnose and resolve system faults, and complete warranty and service-related repairs.
• Maintain detailed, accurate inspection reports, service records, and as-built documentation.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergency service calls as required.
Low-Voltage Security Systems
• Install and configure access control systems, including maglocks, electric strikes, card readers, request-to-exit devices, and Automatic Door Operator (ADO) integration.
• Install, program, and troubleshoot IP camera systems and NVRs, including network configuration and remote access setup.
• Assist with installation and configuration of structured cabling and supporting telecom equipment such as POE switches, routers, access points, and patch panels.
• Install and service Enterphones, panic intercoms, and associated notification devices.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, riser diagrams, and construction drawings to execute accurate, code-compliant installations.
Tools, Safety & Physical Requirements
• Operate hand and power tools, multimeters, network testers, tone generators, and signal testers safely and effectively.
• Work at heights (ladders, lifts) and in confined spaces as required by site conditions.
• Work outdoors and on active construction sites in all weather conditions.
• Lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials up to approximately 50 lbs (23 kg); perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, crouching, and kneeling throughout the workday.
• Manage materials, tools, and site resources to support efficient workflow and minimize project delays.
• Coordinate with site supervisors, electricians, contractors, and other trades on new construction and retrofit sites to ensure seamless project execution while following safety standards and protocols.

• Valid Ontario G driver's licence with a clean driving abstract.
• Working at Heights certification, WHMIS, and First Aid/CPR.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
• Physically able to climb ladders, work at heights, and lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) in varied weather and site conditions.
Nice-to-Haves
• Knowledge of structured cabling, POE networking, and low-voltage telecommunications systems.
• Experience with access control platforms (e.g., Salto, RBH, ICT, CDVI, Genetec, Lenel, DSC, Honeywell) or fire alarm systems.
Education
• Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification (or actively registered & working toward certification as a CFAA Trainee Technician) is required.
• Post-secondary diploma/degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field — considered an asset, not required.
