Job Description:
The permanent, full time teaching staff is responsible for the daily care, instruction, and supervision of the children at the centre, under direct supervision of the director. Early childhood educators are responsible for the daily planning, implementation, and education of the program activities.
Job Requirements:
Qualification:
As per Regulation 21A of the Day Care Act and Regulations, the minimum requirement for the teaching staff is that they will have completed training program in early Childhood Education or equivalent.
Early Childhood Educators will have a diploma, degree or equivalent in Early Childhood Education.
Early Childhood Educators to also have current First Aid Certificate Level C, Child Abuse Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities:
• Will plan and implement daily programs of developmentally appropriate activities (i.e., Indoor/outdoor play, individual /group-active and quiet activities)
• Maintains an updated supply list for the classroom and notifies director of program needs.
• Stays updated on new programs and activities.
• Organize space, equipment, and materials for activities.
• Plans and implements activities to stimulate learning, exploration, independence, creativity, community, and cultural awareness.
• Implements and evaluates individual program plans and progress reports.
• Establish and follow daily classroom schedule.
• Welcomes families and child to the classroom.
• Maintains open communication about child with parents, staff and director as needed, respecting confidentiality policy.
• Supervises teachers’ assistants, part time and students when required.
• Refrains from yelling, swearing and threats with, children, other staff, director, and parents (could be grounds for dismal)
• Compiles with day care act and regulations
• Follows dress code.
• Attends regular staff meetings.
• Makes and accepts personal phone calls at breaks and lunch (except in cases of an emergency) Cell phones will not be permitted in the classrooms.

Health and Safety:
• Maintains current first aid training.
• Complies with health/sick child policy.
• Responsible for light duties and maintaining classroom tidiness.
• Informs director when first aid supplies need to be replenished.
• Reports and records accidents and injuries to director and parents.
• If necessary, changes children clothing if wet or soiled.
• Recognizes changes in child's behaviour and reports to director and parents when necessary.
• Reports incidents of suspected child abuse to director and appropriate authorities.
• Infants must not be fed in a crib or by propping bottle. Child must be held by staff member during feeding if cannot hold bottle.
• Releases children only to parents or individuals who are preauthorized by the parents to pick up child.
