Job Description:
Northern Illinois University is looking for a Director, Center for Burma Studies. A qualified applicant oversees the maintenance and expansion of a comprehensive Burmese studies historical research library; Oversees and cares of the multiple world-class Burmese collections on campus; Identifies and secures resources for improvement of the collections; Oversees of the Center budget and financial needs; Actively promotes the collections on and off campus and online for education and research; Develops transdisciplinary initiatives and collaborations, outreach, and engagement activities; Cultivates sustainable relationships with University, international researchers, and the surrounding community; Develops a yearly exhibition program in consultation with the other campus museums and galleries, and in collaboration with faculty and staff; Organizes and hosts the biannual national and international Burma Studies Conferences; Oversees the publication of the Journal of Burma Studies and other scholarship related to Burma Studies; Contributes to instruction in the History Department; Oversees provision of materials from the Burmese collections for use in different disciplines of the Humanities and Social Sciences; Researches Burma Culture; Manages the Burma collection for the University; Oversees experiential learning of students enrolled in the Museum Studies Certificate; and Provides other students with educational support on Burma Studies and other History Studies. Requirements: Doctorate Deg (PhD) or foreign degree equivalent in History and one year’s experience in position or one year’s experience as Lecturer in History of Burmese Literature. Special Requirements: Experience with researching Burma culture; and managing a gallery, museum or collection in academic or professional setting. Pre-employment background check and verification of eligibility to work in US required. EOE/AA. Salary: $103,000 to $145,000/year.
