Job Description:

Our team is looking for an experienced Cook who will work closely with the Windermere House team.

Terms of Employment:

• This is a permanent and full-time position, 32 -40 hours of work per week.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.

Job Duties:

• Prepare and cook a variety of dishes following established recipes, portion sizes and quality standards
• Set up and stock workstations with all necessary ingredients and cooking equipment.
• Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely meal service.
• Monitor food storage and rotation to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
• Operate, maintain, and clean all kitchen equipment.
• Assist with tracking food inventory and notify the kitchen supervisor of supply or equipment needs.
• Assist in receiving and inspecting deliveries to verify the quality and quantity of ingredients
• Plan, arrange, and oversee buffet service operations, ensuring appropriate food presentation, portion control, food safety compliance, and efficient service throughout operating hours.
• Adhere to food safety and handling procedures and maintain a clean sanitized kitchen
• Plan menus, determine appropriate portion sizes, estimate food and supply requirements and associated costs, and oversee inventory control and supply procurement.
• Assist in the training of new staff as needed.

Education and Experience:

• Completion of secondary school is required.
• Minimum 2 to 3 years of culinary experience.

Certification:

• Safe Food Handling Certification is required.

Health & Safety:

• Maintain knowledge of safety policies and procedures and performs assigned duties in a safe manner.

Language:

• Ability to read and interpret documents as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors and members of the organization.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50lbs.
• Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. As well to handle, control or feel objects tools or controls.
• Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and twist their bodies.

Computer:

• Proficient in using MS Office applications, including MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; other computer skills necessary for communication and research.

• Must be willing to “pitch in” and help co-workers with their job duties and be a team player.
• Must be a self starter and have a passion for Service.
• Initiative is a must as this role may look different each shift.
