Position: Controls Technician
Duration/Type: Permanent/Full Time
Work Location: 1241 Strasburg Rd, Kitchener, ON N2R 0S1
Salary: $35.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal & Provincial income taxes & other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 32-40 hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities
• Assist in the design and planning of control systems, including system architecture and component selection.
• Assist in writing and troubleshooting PLC programs using basic programming languages (ladder logic, structured text) under the guidance of Controls Engineers.
• Help design and configure Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for user interaction with control systems.
• Assist with the installation and wiring of control panels, sensors, and other components as part of system setups.
• Support in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting control systems during setup and after installation.
• Assist in creating and updating electrical schematics, control system documentation, and reports.
• Provide maintenance support for control systems and equipment, performing routine checks and assisting in minor repairs.
• Identify and troubleshoot electrical and control system issues, reporting complex problems to Controls Engineers.
• Actively participate in training and development activities to enhance technical knowledge and skills in automation and controls.

Job Requirements:
• A college level diploma in electrical engineering, automation technology, or a related field is required.
• 1-2 years experience working in control systems, PLC programming, and automation technology is required
• Proficiency in PLC programming languages, such as ladder logic, structured text, function block diagrams, or sequential function charts. Familiarity with PLC brands like Siemens, Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation), Mitsubishi, or Schneider Electric is required.
• Experience with designing and programming HMIs using software like Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or Ignition
• Understanding of electrical schematics, control panel design, motor control circuits, and the ability to work with electrical design software like AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
• Moderate communication skills in English language
