Construction Materials Testing Technician
Join our Geotechnical and Materials Engineering team and build the foundation for a lasting career in geotechnical engineering. We offer a dynamic environment where technical excellence, precision, and continuous learning are valued. The project location is in British Columbia.
The Role
Support geotechnical engineering and construction activities through field observation, laboratory testing, and compliance verification. Ensure construction materials and earthworks meet project specifications, regulatory standards, and industry requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Field & Laboratory Testing: Perform testing of soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete per ASTM/CSA standards; conduct geotechnical drilling, sampling, and logging; maintain and calibrate equipment including nuclear densometers.
• Earthworks Compliance: Inspect and verify compliance for engineered fill, road base, subgrade preparation, and working platforms; document test locations, material types, moisture content, and compaction test and results; communicate results immediately and report non-conformances.
• Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Maintain licensing, transport permits, and radiation safety protocols for nuclear density gauges; adhere to all company and site-specific health and safety procedures.
• Blasting Support: Observe blasting operations from a geotechnical perspective; review powder factors and evaluate impacts on slope stability and excavation performance; document observations and escalate concerns as needed.
• Reporting: Complete daily field reports and maintain accurate project documentation; communicate regularly with project managers, site supervisors, and clients.
Requirements
• Experience in soil, concrete, or asphalt testing preferred (not required) • CSA certification and nuclear gauge certification considered assets • Ability to lift 35 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather/terrain • Valid driver's license with insurable driving record • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or as part of a team
