Position Description:
As part of the Ground and In-Space, Cryogenic Fluid Management team, you will be designing tank-internal instrumentation for ground testing a 1,000-5,000-gallon, flight weight liquid hydrogen tank.
Job Duties include:
Cryogenic Fuel Tank Testing (Ground and In-Space, Cryogenic Fluid Management
• Knowledge of hydrogen-compatible liquid-level and temperature sensing fiber optics and silicon diodes.
• Testing success leading to wide industry interest and follow-on test programs.
• Ability to generate technical peer reviewed white papers for professional cryogenic organizations.
• Some fluids transfer knowledge skills are necessary along with empirical past experience of cryogenic behavior in locked up conditions for longer duration in-space propellant storage.
• Ability to work with technicians to convey schematics, quality of workmanship required, and maintain schedule and costs for complex test scenarios.
• Requirements include several certifications necessary to work at NASA, MSFC Building 4205, and the East Test Area.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing techniques used in the cryogenic propellant industry.
Cryogenic Propellant Transfer Testing – Develop NASA vacuum chamber facility capability for low-cost, cryogenic fluid transfer and boil-off tests.
• Design and construct certified pressure system, cryogenic fluid transfer system.
• Design and construct remotely operated, vacuum-rated, motorized cryogenic fluid valve assemblies including programmable control system.
• Support successful, liquid nitrogen, tank-to-tank transfer tests.
• Understanding of cryocoolers and their ability to affect long duration cryogenic propellant storage.
• Ability to work with technicians to convey schematics, quality of workmanship required, and maintain schedule and costs for complex test scenarios.
• Requirements include several certifications necessary to work at NASA, MSFC Building 4205, and the East Test Area.
• Solid understanding of manufacturing techniques used in the cryogenic propellant industry.

Job Requirements:
A degree in mechanical, chemical or nuclear engineering is required. A degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Interrelated experience of 20+ years is required.
Excellent Skills and experience required in the following:
• Interpersonal and communication skills and strong team commitment and customer relations
• Written and verbal communication skills
• Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Star ID will be required to obtain access to MSFC.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
