A Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is a vital member of the surgical team, responsible for preparing and maintaining a sterile environment, as well as assisting surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures. The following are key responsibilities and qualifications:
Responsibilities:
Prepare operating rooms for surgery by setting up equipment, supplies, and instruments Sterilize and supply equipment, ensuring aseptic technique Prepare patients for surgery, including washing incision sites and positioning patients Assist surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures by passing them instruments and sterile supplies Maintain highest standard of sterile technique during procedures Perform instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the surgical technologist in the first scrub role prior to the operation and before the incision is closed Gather, check, and open supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure Perform the surgical scrub, and donning gown and gloves
Job Requirements:
May be licensed as a UAP/T or LPN. Temporary UAP/T license accepted prior to start. Must be a graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or graduate of a military training program.
