Location: Kensington, Prince Edward Island
Wage: $31.20/hour
Hours: 35–45 hours per week

About the role

The Carpenter will be responsible for completing carpentry work associated with deck construction, renovations and other wooden structures. This position requires a carpenter who can work accurately and efficiently, understand project requirements, communicate effectively with clients and complete work with minimal supervision.

Duties
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches.
Determine measurements, specifications and material requirements.
Prepare layouts using appropriate measuring tools.
Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join wood and other construction materials.
Build and install decks, stairs, railings and related wooden structures.
Install doors, mouldings, hardware and other carpentry components.
Prepare labour and material estimates.
Prepare project quotations and tenders.
Communicate with customers regarding project requirements and progress.
Schedule and coordinate work at job sites.
Maintain, repair and renovate wooden structures as required.
Follow applicable building requirements and safe work practices.
Complete projects efficiently and to a high standard of workmanship.
Work independently as well as as part of a construction team.

Qualifications
At least 5 years of carpentry experience.
Strong practical experience with residential carpentry and wood construction.
Excellent measuring, cutting, assembly and installation skills.
Ability to read and understand construction drawings and sketches.
Experience providing estimates and quotations is an asset.
Strong customer relationship and communication skills.
Good judgment and problem-solving ability.
Ability to organize and coordinate work and meet project deadlines.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Reliable, punctual and professional.
Physically capable of performing demanding construction work.
Willingness to work outdoors and at heights.
Steel-toed safety boots required.

Experience operating or managing a carpentry business is considered an asset, particularly experience involving customer relationships, project estimates, quotations, scheduling and responsibility for completing carpentry projects.

Red Seal certification is not required. Candidates with substantial practical carpentry experience are encouraged to apply.
